Are you a fan of the Alien franchise? Do you enjoy movie making? Well, here's your chance to leave your mark on the iconic sci-fi franchise.

In celebration of Alien's upcoming 40th anniversary, 20th Century Fox is teaming up with online creator network Tongal to give superfan filmmakers an opportunity to create their own short films set after the events of the original movie.

The "by the fans, for the fans" campaign, will allow you to submit your pitches for the short and from this initial pool, 18 filmmakers will be chosen to further develop their pitch with a visual treatment, pitch video, and scripts. In the end, six filmmakers will be selected to bring their short film to life.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Twentieth Century Fox on the anniversary of such an epic franchise and bringing that opportunity to our creator community,” said Tongal co-founder and chief creative officer James DeJulio. "The Tongal and Fox collaboration is a bullseye for us as we continue our work to empower creators to engage current and future fans around titles like Alien.”

Ridley Scott's Alien released on May 25, 1979, and was met with critical acclaim and box office success. Its success spawned a media franchise of sequel films, comic books, novels, video games, and toys.

If you have an idea for a pitch you'd like to submit, you can do so over at Tongal. The pitch qualification portion ends on July 3rd. The entire process of bringing your pitch to life will run through January 2019.

Just bought this yesterday, haven’t read it yet because I also bought Sandman, but here it is:

You know, they could fix the issues with both the Alien franchise and the DCEU if they did that^^^

Can they make a similar contest for the X-Men films? Or are they worried that the fans would be better at it? 😶😶

@CyclopsWasRight - Wellllllll.... since it looks like the MCU might very likely get them back, I don't think having a contest for X-Men will be all that necessary. Besides, Logan, DP 1+2, X2 and Days of Future Past have all been strong films which I doubt any fan made film could top.

The Alien saga has only had one really good film (Alien), one enjoyable popcorn flick (Aliens) and a bunch of okay to outright terrible (AvP:R) movies, they need a lot more help.

@GeneralZod - so far I have enjoyed all the films. What people don't realise is that AvsP are films that were made just to make money. They are not canon. What you have posted, that's the real thing.

@fundamentallyOT - yes. i neglected to put Alien 3 (a forgetful film, but canon nonetheless). Here it is.
