Legendary Pictures is developing a new Buck Rogers movie, and George Clooney is said to be circling the project - potentially in several different capacities.
THR reports that Clooney and his Smokehouse partner Grant Heslov are already on board as exec producers, and while the film is being developed as a potential starring vehicle for the actor-turned-director, it doesn't sound like that's set in stone.
Buck Rogers debuted in the pages of Amazing Stories all the way back in 1928. The original tale focused on a man who woke up almost 500 years in the future after becoming trapped in a coal mine during a cave-in and falling into suspended animation. The character's popularity exploded after a Buck Rogers comic followed in 1929, but it's the campy '70's TV series, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, which featured Twiki the robot that today's fans will be most familiar with.
Details on this new take on the pulp hero are few and far between, but the film will likely be based on an upcoming comic series that is being written by Brian K. Vaughan. An anime spinoff is also being discussed.
Clooney is currently said to be garnering some awards attention for his work on Netflix's The Midnight Sky (you can check out our review here), which he directed and starred in.
