As the release of Godzilla Vs. Kong draws near, the social media embargo for initial reactions has lifted, and several critics who have been lucky enough to get an early look at the movie have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Legendary's Godzilla: King of the Monsters follow-up has been positively received overall, with the action sequences involving the titular Titans coming in for the highest praise. The score, VFX and Adam Wingard's directorial style also appear to be highlights, but it seems the human characters are, yet again, an issue for many.

Despite utilizing strong casts, this has been a problem in all the Monster-Verse movies so far, so it shouldn't really come as much of a surprise. Of course, fans are more concerned with giant monsters punching each other, and in that regard, at least, the movie sounds like it delivers the goods and will hopefully be a significant improvement on the disappointing GKOTM.

Check out some Tweets below.

It's always best not to put too much stock in these early reactions, but we' should get a much better idea of what to expect when the full review embargo lifts on March 29.

“Legends collide as these mythic adversaries meet in a spectacular battle for the ages, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, and with them is Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond. But they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe. The epic clash between the two titans—instigated by unseen forces—is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth.”

Starring Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Shun Oguri, Jessica Henwick and Brian Tyree Henry, Godzilla Vs. Kong pits the two famous monsters against each other in an epic battle.

Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok) and Max Borenstein (The Terror) wrote the screenplay, with Adam Wingard on board as director. The movie is set for release in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31.

@dragon316 - Original Godzilla and the 2014 Godzilla had decent human stories. Just because a majority of the human stories have been crap doesn't mean they shouldnt try to do better

@m1doriya - At a certain point non stop action gets boring, good to have good drama to balance it out. (Not like the monsters can provide that). Just want monster fights, might as well watch a compilation video on youtube. Also 2014 got a better response than the monster heavy/boring human story than king of the monsters. Even the monster fights in KOTM was generic

@dragon316 - ALL good godzilla movies have a solid human element. It is an important part of the movie. if you dont like that, just look for the fight scenes on Youtube.

"Wingard’s directing style is on full display in a colorful & breathtaking fashion that also harkens back to the 80s style kaiju."

I'd just like to see one early reaction to a movie that's overwhelming negative. Can I have that for once in my life?

@Origame - I feel like that’s the only way I’d believe early reviews. When it’s great/overall positive it doesn’t really mean anything but if it was all negative then I think it would actually be a good litmus test

@Origame - i’d sah Mike Ryan’s isn’t exactly positive, which is the closest thing I can think of. I wish I loved as much as that Erik Davis guy lol

Early reviews are early reviews so I’m not putting stock in it but I’m hopeful. I liked Godzilla and King of The monsters quite a bit, I didn’t really love Kong: Skull Island as a huge Kong fan but I was fine with it as it’s whole conceit was just getting him to fight Godzilla eventually. I’m gonna do a rewatch of the last 3 movies this week and then watch this when it drops. Also Team Kong

It’s interesting to see how much more interested the GA seems to be in this movie than the last few. Godzilla 2014 seemed to get a lot of people to watch but both Kong Skull Island and especially King of the Monsters seemed to not really have a lot of awareness behind them. Hopefully this does well enough that the series continues bc it seems like the future of the franchise is riding on it
