While the rumor has been making the rounds online for quite some time now, Warner Bros. has finally confirmed that the upcoming fourth installment in The Matrix franchise will be titled The Matrix: Resurrections

Along with the title reveal, WB unveiled the film's first official trailer (keep scrolling for a footage description). There's no word on when it could be released online, but considering the film's expected simultaneous launch in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22, it seems quite probable it will find its way online sometime in October, ahead of Denis Villeneuve's Dune

Franchise stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will headline the sequel, reprising their iconic roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively, with an all-new supporting cast consisting of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, and Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe.

Lana Wachowski directed the long-awaited sequel, with a screenplay she co-wrote with David Mitchell & Aleksander Hemon. She's also a producer on the project with Grant Hill and James McTeigue.

Here's a quick description of the trailer, per Screen Rant

"The new trailer opens in San Francisco, with Neo now going by the name of Thomas and seemingly unaware of who he is. Neil Patrick Harris plays his therapist and a brief scene of Neo as Thomas is shown in a therapy session. Neo says, "I've had dreams that don't seem like dreams. Am I crazy?" before he has flashbacks to events of the original trilogy. The trailer also expands on the initial footage of Trinity and Neo meeting, but this time, they don't seem to know each other even though they think they do. Trinity asks Neo as Thomas, "Have we met?"

The trailer then shifts into montage mode, with Neo observing day-to-day life in the Matrix's version of San Francisco. Finally, Mateen shows up and he looks like a young Morpheus, saying, "Time to fly," before offering Neo a red pill and a blue pill. Then, another young woman with blue hair takes Neo through a mirror, showing him the Matrix.

Another scene sees young Morpheus and Neo fighting before Neo breaks the dojo room with his powers. The trailer also shows that the machine pods are back, as are agents, and the franchise's signature action. Trinity can be seen fighting police officers and agents at one point before the clip ends with Neo pulling his signature move, stopping bullets with his mind, before he redirects an entire missile at a helicopter."

I still think matrix rebooted works better. It keeps the re trend going, and kinda means the same thing as resurrections though has more to do with computer programs.

Resurrections is super generic, coming across as a straight to bargain bin title as opposed to a theatrical release.

@Origame - also, does this guy know anything about the matrix? Neo isn't developing new powers by controlling missiles. He controls everything in the matrix. He flies because he changed the rules of gravity for himself. And there's nothing about missiles that should prevent neo from controlling them like bullets.

@Origame - I’m not mad at Resurrections but I’m honestly shocked they didn’t go with Rebooted as it makes too much sense all around.

@Origame - Didn't he also shut down the Sentinals in "the real world"? Even though that one scene was never mentioned again.

@TheLobster - I wouldn't say I'm mad. If anything it's just reminding me of the massive fall from grace the wachowski siblings have gone through since their glory days.

@Kadara - if you mean that moment in reloaded, yeah. It's revealed in revelations that his powers also extend to the source, which is the matrix like program that the machines use to remain connected to each other. Since all machines are linked to the source, neo can destroy them.
