Yesterday, the first footage from The Matrix: Resurrections was finally released via the movie's official website, which also confirmed that the full trailer will be with us at 6AM PT tomorrow.

There were actually quite a few shots in those brief teasers, as a different clip would play depending on whether you clicked on the blue or red pill (the time of your visit to the site also seemed to factor in). Now, @vicious696 has combined all of the footage together in one video.

It doesn't all gel together very well because some of the clips reuse voiceovers and music cues, but the footage does give us some intriguing glimpses of new and returning characters in action, including Keanu Reeves' Neo, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as a younger Morpheus, and the mysterious warrior played by Iron Fist actress Jessica Henwick. Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity doesn't appear to be spotlighted here, but we're sure she'll show up in tomorrow's trailer.

Check out the video below.

Other franchise returnees include Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson. Also joining the cast will be Andrew Caldwell, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen Hollman, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Christina Ricci, Max Riemelt, and Brian J. Smith.

The Matrix: Resurrections is directed by Lana Wachowski, and will be released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously on December 22.

Is that Lawrence Fishburne in one of the clips touching the back of his neck?

So Neo didnt bring peace between humans and machines? I havent followed much since the trilogy, so this all confuses me. Hope it's not trash like the sequels and doesnt make the original film meaningless.

@LilJimmy - They wanted to keep the matrix going because of the mmo Matrix online game

Yeap. They sacrificed a good story ending for a game noone remembers today.

@LilJimmy - It’s been awhile since I last saw them, but to my memory, perhaps completely wrong; the machines ended the war because Neo made a deal with them. Smith had assumed control of the Matrix taking it from the machines. So Neo would kill Smith and the machines resume control. In return the machines end the war. I recall there being some kind of mention about how the humans will have to uphold their part which the machines acknowledged they one day will revolt again. Reboots and whatnot. Seems like Neo might be in control this time around though.

“ The story jumps between eras until each storyline eventually resolves, spanning hundreds of years. Writings from characters in prior storylines are found in future storylines. Characters appear to recur in each era, but change relationships to each other. Slaves or abusers often change roles, suggesting reincarnation or other connection between souls through the ages.”

That’s actually the opening paragraph to the Plot description of CLOUD ATLAS.

Something about this younger Morpheus, and seeing some of the same shots in this film duplicated from the original film…

…makes me think this film is gonna have some of the DNA of Cloud Atlas.

How that roles with the General Audience… 🤷‍♂️

@IronGenesis - what if those different era's are the five previous incarnations of the Matrix the Architect spoke of?

@IronGenesis - well a lot of the Cloud Atlas team is on this one, so I wouldn’t put it past them

I really have no idea what to expect of this movie. It looks cool, but I don't remember a lot of the second and third movie and don't see why a sequel is needed.

My guess is the story is probably something simple like Neo going back into the Matrix because there is a bug or it's the story of one of the earlier incarnations.

The Matrix is such a rich franchise (if they handle it right). Fingers crossed.
