AMC Theaters has just debuted a new IMAX trailer for Steven S. DeKnight's Pacific Rim Uprising, and it features quite a bit of previously unseen from the upcoming sequel.

In addition to several exciting shots of Jaegers taking on a monstrous new threat that's believed to be a category 6 Kaiju, we get a much better glimpse of a couple of mechs coming to blows. There are also new glimpses of returning characters Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) and Dr. Newton (Charlie Day).

Check out the trailer below, and let us know if you're looking forward to this one in the usual place.

John Boyega stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.

Pacific Rim Uprising also stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, and Adria Arjona, and is set to hit theaters on March 23.

This movie looks super fun. Like a mech anime come to life, even more so than the first one.

When Guillermo Del Toro first envisioned and designed the world of Pacific Rim, he was trying to do something pretty cool. The result was visually impressive, but the narrative and dialogue was pretty bad. This new movie looks like it's trying to fill the gap left by Transformers, that is "big, dumb, noisy and pointless."

@permaturenut - "WTF is wrong with all of you guys?!" I mean, it's not like people have their own personal tastes and opinions...oh wait...But then again, bringing up Trump in something that doesn't even pertain to politics, I can see where your intelligence level is at lol

the feeling when you're one of the very few hyped for this movie

it makes me a bit sad. I like mechs as much as superheroes, and while the later thrives now more than ever, mechas have fade in popularity, even in Japan (aside from the mandatory Gundam series every couple or so years).

when did giant robots stop being awesome? :(

@Spidey91 - They didn't... but crappy movies featuring them did. Hey, I get that there's a market for this type of thing and I'm not coming down on anyone for liking it, but personally, it takes more than just robots and monsters kicking the shit out of each other to make for an enjoyable movie going experience, You could just watch video game cut scenes and get the same thing from them. It's the same problem with the Transformers flicks: all of the human stuff it OTT, macho, cheesy nonsense, spouted by characters who are about as deep as a puddle. Some people feel that stuff just goes hand in hand with a movie like this but I don't buy that.. you can still have all that crazy action AND actually care about the characters involved in it.

Just pissed me off cos I really wanted to like the first one but I spent more time laughing at the dialog than anything else, and this actually looks worse!
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 2/15/2018, 9:21 AM
@RorMachine - yeah, I get it.
maybe it's also my personal taste, I have a very kid-like mindset when I sit down to watch this kind of stuff. and I've seen enough mech anime to understand its criticisms. this is just a live-action translation of that and...yeah, I can see why people would have problems with it outside the robots and monsters.

still. I hope this movie (most likely) flopping doesn't scare other studios from doing other adapations of mech properties. that Robotech movie is taking too much time as it is.

heisei24 - 2/15/2018, 10:53 PM
@Spidey91 - When they stop releasing good contents alongside it. Let's be honest, most mecha series lately were terrible, even some of the recent Gundam is seeing some decrease in quality.
