Ahead of this weekend's New York Toy Fair, Hasbro and Saban have announced that Hasbro has been officially named the global master toy licensee for the entire Power Rangers franchise. The popular toy manufacturer, who is also behind the immensely popular Marvel Legends series, will design, produce, and bring to market a wide variety of toys, games, and role play items inspired by the long-running franchise. The deal will go into effect starting April 2019.

Additionally, the new agreement also notes that Hasbro, after an unspecified period of time of being the master toy licensee, could eventually outright purchase the Power Rangers property from Saban Brands, a small reveal that has some very interesting timing as it was also announced, during their investor preview, that their Transformers movie franchise is being rebooted. Could Hasbro have just found its next possible major movie franchise?

This news comes hot on the heels of Power Rangers ending their 25-year partnership with Bandai America on Thursday. It remains unclear why Saban decided not to renew their deal with Bandai, but it's probably not a stretch to assume that it may have had something to do with the extremely underwhelming movie merchandise sales from last year.

More details are expected to be revealed this weekend during the New York Toy Fair, with both companies rumored to be hosting a "fan day" where any interested parties will be able to inquire about the change and learn more about potential upcoming products.

Plus, the franchise has revealed a brand new logo. Check it out below:

PAWTUCKET, R.I. & LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAS), a global play and entertainment company, and Saban Brands announced that Hasbro has been named the global master toy licensee for Saban’s Power Rangers. Under the terms of the agreement and in collaboration with Saban Brands, Hasbro will design, produce and bring to market a wide variety of toys, games and role play items inspired by the franchise and its entertainment properties. Hasbro will hold the worldwide rights, excluding Japan and certain other Asian markets, effective as of April 1, 2019.

“We are honored to create a world of play experiences for such an iconic action brand,” said Brian Goldner, Chairman and CEO of Hasbro. “Saban’s Power Rangers are universally recognized and their hallmark attributes of teamwork and inclusivity perfectly align with our core values at Hasbro.”

“Hasbro leads the way in brand storytelling and creating engaging experiences across its exceptional portfolio of blockbuster and partner brands,” said Haim Saban, founder of Saban Brands and creator of Power Rangers. “Quality, innovation and a focus on designing dynamic products for fans of all ages makes Hasbro a great partner for Power Rangers.”

Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers quickly became a pop culture phenomenon. Today, Power Rangers is one of the longest running kids’ live-action series in television history with nearly 900 episodes produced to date. The TV series, currently in its 25th season with Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel, and feature films, including 2017’s movie with Lionsgate, follows the adventures of a group of ordinary teens who morph into superheroes and save the world from evil. Saban’s Power Rangers currently airs in 150 markets around the world and is translated into numerous languages.

The first set of products from Hasbro will be available in spring 2019. Both Hasbro and Saban Brands are dedicated to continue growing this iconic brand. In recognition of this investment, during a period of time after Hasbro becomes the master toy licensee, the arrangement between the parties provides Saban Brands and Hasbro with the opportunity to initiate Hasbro’s purchase of the Power Rangers property.

Hasbro really? Well prepare for some overpriced cheaply made toys with very poor articulation. Funko does a better job than hasbro.

Hasbro is promising. It should be able to do a much better job than Bandai did, given its higher resources.

Hasbro could buy Power Rangers? That would be cool. They would a really cool addition to the shared universe they want to create. Even better if they would incorporate it with their own Transformers. Only if somehow Hasbro could also buy Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, Ninja Turtles, and Voltron then all my boyhood dreams could come true. Now that would be a shared universe that could compete with anyone.

Are they making a sequel to Power Rangers?
TheLight
TheLight - 2/16/2018, 4:03 PM
@chewie - From what I know, nope. The movie was 50/50, but they should've just made the team new people with new names.

@TheLight - ok thanks. Didn’t think it was horrible and they could’ve definitely improved on the sequel. Oh well

@TheUnworthyThor -
It's a bit of a shame, they were bad movies - but at least they had finally gotten to an apocalyptic scale threat and were probably going to head off Earth.

They had Unicron introduced, the implication was that the Earth was doomed and going to be destroyed regardless of what happened either they defeat Unicron and destroy Earth OR they dont defeat Unicron and he awakens destroying Earth.

Now it seems likely the reboot will put us back on Earth again.

Disney should buy Power Rangers again and launch a cohesive Power Rangers shared Universe. Can you imagine Power Rangers in Kingdom Hearts 4? Power Rangers crossing over in the comics with Spiderman? Power Rangers helping Captain Marvel battle the Kree Empire from invading their Earth?

Galactus at some point threatening their Earth and Zordon unites with the Silver Surfer to craft an intergalactic Megazord that rivals Galactus in size? So much potential.

Spidey91 - 2/16/2018, 11:20 AM
@SonOfAGif - they bought Power Rangers to draw the male demographic. but now they have Marvel. probably why Saban was able to reacquire them. I mean, they bought something FROM Disney instead of getting bought BY Disney.

I doubt that this will help greenlight a sequel to the 2017 film. But the comics that they're doing now are pretty cool.
