Earlier today, at New York Comic-Con, author Ernest Cline finally dropped the veil on the top-secret Ready Player Two, his long-awaited sequel novel to the 2011 runaway smash hit Ready Player One.

While it's been nearly a decade since his original novel, the sequel will pick up just days after Wade Watts completed James Halliday's epic Easter Egg hunt and send him on an even bigger quest that will leave the fate of both the OASIS and the real world hanging in the balance.

Read the official synopsis below:

Unexpected Quest Two Worlds at Stake

Are you ready?

Days after winning OASIS founder James Halliday's contest, Wade Watts makes a discovery that changes everything.

Hidden within Halliday's vaults, waiting for his heir to find, lies a technological advancement that will once again change the world and make the OASIS a thousand times more wondrous — and addictive — than even Wade dreamed possible.

With it comes a new riddle, and a new quest — a last Easter egg from Halliday, hinting at a mysterious prize.

And an unexpected, impossibly powerful, and dangerous new rival awaits, one who'll kill millions to get what he wants.

Wade's life and the future of the OASIS are again at stake, but this time the fate of humanity also hangs in the balance.

Lovingly nostalgic and wildly original as only Ernest Cline could conceive it, Ready Player Two takes us on another imaginative, fun, action-packed adventure through his beloved virtual universe, and jolts us thrillingly into the future once again.

His original novel spawned a extremely successful live-action adaptation from the legendary Steven Spielberg that grossed over $582.9 million worldwide and starred Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke in the lead roles as Parzival and Art3mis, respectively. No word yet on whether this upcoming novel could spawn a sequel to the fan-favorite film.

Ready Player Two hits bookshelves worldwide on November 24.

It would be great if Steven Spielberg also adapted this book. I loved the first movie.

@Repian

The first movie was a lot of fun.

At least this book will be good for something.

I was hoping Artemis would take the lead on this one, since she's P2 to Perzival's P1. Still, I can't wait to read this as I really like book one. Another one for the list.

@8thDoctor - Yeah. Missed opportunity.

@8thDoctor - That would have been super cool and given us a chance to see the world through her eyes.

I liked the first book much more than the movie, but Armada was pretty disappointing and I'm not sure a sequel will work.

@jj2112 - I still gotta finish Armada. Had the audio book on my previous phone, but since that one broke down I haven't listened to it again. Worth finishing ut though?

@jj2112 - Armada has got to have one of the worst endings to a story ever tbh. It was so bad

@jj2112 - The idea was great and, as a child of the 70s and 80s I loved the nostalgia. The ending, however, did seem to miss the mark completely. There is definitely room to continue the stories (no spoilers) but a sequel would really need to be properly planned out from start to finish.

@bkmeijer - Yes, the ending was a disappointment but I would still finish the book (or audiobook with Wil Wheaton) so you can make up your own mind.

@bkmeijer - No, don't waste your time.

@Thanson - Wil Wheaton made it pretty engaging, so might just listen to it again

The movie sucked. I thought it’s be something I’d love but no, it was full of junk. You need to pause most of the shots to see the Easter eggs. It’s a boring mess.

If this one will be adopted as well, I hope they bring some actual gamers in on this. No way an out of bounds path will remain hidden for that long (yes I'm talking about the race)

@bkmeijer - the whole movie felt very non-gamery. Kind of like a 90s guys version of what gamers are.

@bkmeijer - Yeah that alone made me cold on the first one. Someone would have gone the wrong way the very first day the race was up.

Also the concept of losing everything and being returned to Level 1 if you die and yet PvP is still a thing and people play it? Insane. Have you ever played a video game? How does a system like that even hope to work?

that sounds unbelievably generic

The plot sounds like something James Gunn would do (sending people on a easter egg hunt)

Yes! And my assumption is Speilberg will adapt this but im assuming change up the "days later" to years later to account for the aging of the actors. But yeah, i'm all for it!
