Fans of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine have long assumed that Benjamin Sisko actor Avery Brooks must have retired, but that may not be the case.
During an interview with The 7th Rule podcast on the Youtube Channel Orville Nation, Cirroc Lofton, who played Sisko's son Jake on the show, discussed his relationship with his co-star, who he says he still keeps in contact with.
"Avery's doing good. And I make a point of this... I know it kind of goes under the radar, but I think it needs to be said because this is an important time we're living in where we're becoming very socially aware of the types of things that are regressive in society, things that are racial, sexual and all kinds of revolutions we are having in thought and acceptance of people."
Lofton continued to speak about Brooks' career, indicating that there might be more to the actor's long absence than people realize, and questioning why, out of all of the actors to play Star Trek captains over the years, Brooks is the only one we don't see in movies or on TV anymore.
The actor then stated that he believes there's "something bigger there, in which he is kind of being discriminated against." Whether there's any truth to that is obviously up for debate, but Lofton certainly makes some challenging observations.
