Boo! Spock would never have such an unkept beard! It's highly illogical!

@Spock0Clock - Spock is clearly out of his element in that shot, which was the only shot of him and meant to be jarring, I think.

So hyped for this to return. I never would have thought these streaming services would lead to a Sci-Fi revolution of sorts.....but it's been AMAZING. Even Syfy is showing Sci-Fi again!

My recent favs:

1. The Expanse
2. Star Trek Discovery
3. Altered Carbon
4. Lost In Space
5. Maniac

@Talontd - It's not sci-fi, but the Magicians is also on Syfy and is truly solid fantasy television. Genre TV in general is having a bit of a Renaissance. Even though I would like some more space-opera, it's still great to see.

Say what you want about writing but the production value on this thing is insane. Looks spectacular.

@rebellion - Rapidly becoming, one of the best versions of Trek, ever.
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/7/2018, 6:20 AM
@rebellion - I liked about 80% of the writing. There was a clunker episode or two, but it's still a vastly better batting average than any other Star Trek series ever had.

But who knows what season two may hold. I reserve the right to flip my opinion completely.

@Spock0Clock - In terms of a first season, sure. But this is the golden age of TV and the shows first season, in my opinion, doesn't match the great shows of this moment in terms of writing.

Season 2 is looking promising but it'll take a few seasons to know how it stacks against DS9 or TNG for me... DS9 being my favourite.

@HubbleFunk - "but it's still a vastly better batting average than any other Star Trek series ever had"

I challenge anyone in here to show me an episode, hell the entire season of Discovery, that even slightly compares to the DS9 episode "In the Pale Moonlight." Episode: 6x19 And that's just one ep of greatness from that series. Forget about touching the Original Series. Zero competition, unless all you care about is flashy lights and 'splosions. The Orville owns this series HARD and that's really pathetic, considering what the Orville was supposed to be.

Now, they're going the God route? Rolls eyes hard. I hope they don't pull a Battlestar Galactica. Q has already alluded to there being no gods, except for the Q, who don't even refer to themselves as such except for that one time Q pretended to be God at Picard's death. That angel better be just another alien looking for a starship.

@Luminus - You don't even need to go to In the Pale Moonlight, take season one of DS9 (It's weakest) and it has episodes that handle difficult themes like war crimes culpability in 'Duet' or forced resettlement in the name of progress in 'Progress' or the separation of Religion from education in 'In the Hands of the Prophets'.

DS9 took more risks in storytelling than Discovery could ever hope to. And for that reason, special effects aside.. it still holds up to a high standard today.

The Orville > Star Trek Discovery

I‘ve watched just the first 4 episodes of Discovery and it was horrible,
not gonna lie the visuals in this nycc trailer look great
HubbleFunk
HubbleFunk - 10/7/2018, 6:23 AM
@IcemanX - Finish the season before you make a comparison. Things I hated in the early episodes make a lot more sense as the plot unfolds.
Discovery got a lot better as it went on. Not 'great' but 'very good'. Looks like they are correcting a lot of the issues from the first season with season 2.

As a lifelong Trek fan, I'm digging the look of this a lot.

But.... since binging three seasons of The Expanse, I'm most excited for season 4 of that.

So Mirror Georgiou is back and this un--Roddenberry version of Starfleet are happy to work with her, She's Hitler if Hitler ate the Jews after gassing them, welcome aboard Georgiou, last we saw her she was on Kronos, home world of the Klingon Empire, a species who hate outsiders, a species who in this version of Trek wanted War instead of having Alien species mix with them, but Georgiou a look a like of the most reviled enemy of the Klingons, Captain Georgiou who started the War against them is running a bar on their Home world in a city covered with different Alien species, So Dumb. Burnham handed L'Rell a weapon of Mass destruction to make her people do her bidding through fear, L'Rell who killed, raped, brainwashed Starfleet officers and innocent civilisations, and Burhnam is still in Starfleet, the famous Klingon war we didn't see, and lasted a few episodes. Culver is back, having died last season, a human, so they've broken death too I guess, they've changed fundamentally important occurrences and Trek history, the show isn't working so they're giving Klingons hair, saying Klingons shave their heads in time of war, not true, they must not have seen Star Trek Enterprise, set before Discovery, they're also adding Spock and the Enterprise, I f####ing hate this show.

Pike should have kept the Yellow Uniform. Looks great and Romijn is stellar as Number 1.

Frankly I am most excited for the Pike/Enterprise angle to this season and selfishly I would LOVE to see those characters get such a strong response that CBS decides to make one of their new shows a PIKE led series.

Watch via Netflix. Enjoyed S1 (eventually), really looking forward to S2.
That said, if Netflix decline to do a deal to bring the Discovery "Trek short stories" to their subscribing masses, a very silly stance indeed.

Nah, I'm good. S1 was okay, but to bring the Enterprise and another Spock into the story is too much for me.

This show is a lot of fun. I hope they leave the Klingons out this season because they brought last season down. They're boring! Move on to other species. And bring back the Tardigrade in a crew shirt! That'd be hilarious.

So why does Philippa Georgiou have a greek name? Lol
