Despite The Fan Backlash, Rian Johnson Wouldn't Change A Thing About STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson weighs in on all the hate, abuse, and death threats he's received after helming the divisive sequel and makes it clear that he wouldn't change a thing...

Social media is a wonderful thing. It allows you to tell your favourite celebrities how much you appreciate their work or...tell them you hate them and want them to die because you don't like certain decision they made?! The latter is something Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has experienced a lot of over the month and he's opened up about the backlash in a new interview.

"The crazy thing is, I had no perspective on these tweets," the filmmaker said of some of the
backlash he's received. "I had no perspective in terms of how big a group of people this was, even what they were upset about specifically. Over the next few weeks, I was able to contextualize it and feel much better about it. But at the time, I thought, ‘Oh my god, does everybody hate this? Did I totally mess up, was I wrong?’ I had a very dark hour of the soul…because I had no context for this."

Johnson went on to say that while 95% of the comments he receives about The Last Jedi are positive, it's the negative ones which really stick with him. "When even five percent of the people are saying, ‘You ruined Star Wars, I hope you die,’ that’s what you’re going to listen to." He was quick to add that the response won't affect his approach to the standalone trilogy he's still developing for Lucasfilm.

"There’s nothing I’ve read or seen that’s made me think, ‘Oh god, I did kind of mess that up, I would’ve done that differently if I could go back,'" Johnson concluded. "I still genuinely believe in all the decisions I’ve made." So, there you have it: no regrets! What do you think of these comments?
