Michael K Williams Reveals Details About Recast SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Character

Michael K Williams has been talking about his work on SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY and while he was recast in the role, he has given us a clue as to what to expect for Vos in the upcoming spin-off film.

It’s very uncommon for us to get much, if any, insight into new Star Wars characters before the films released. But one person who isn’t bound by secrecy, is The Wire actor Michael K Williams.

Williams was originally to play Dryden Vos: a half mountain lion, half human like crime boss in the Star Wars spin off, back when Lord and Miller were at the helm.

The directing duo were famously fired from the project leading to Ron Howard taking the reigns and reshooting 80% of the film. Williams, who couldn’t make it back for reshoots, was recast by Vision actor Paul Bettany and the role was slightly altered.

Talking on the Jim and Sam Show, Williams revealed some interesting details about his version of the character and their role in the story:

He was extremely sophisticated. Very rich. He’d been around the world, older guy, and it was sort of a love triangle between Emilia Clarke’s character, Qi’Ra and the young Han Solo,”

The actor then clarified his love triangle remarks, stating:

“Not where it was overtly a love triangle but there was definitely a pissing contest going on for the girl’s attention, and [Vos] is old and [Han] is younger so it was that thing also going on, like, ‘Young buck, I’ve been around the world.’ But he’s like, ‘The young chick wants the young buck.’ So there was a little bit of that energy going on. But the relationship was definitely on paper with Qi’Ra and Han Solo”

Whether this dynamic remains true, with the slightly altered (and now human) version of the character that will hit our screens this year, remains to be seen.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to seeing Dryden Vos? Are you sad Williams is no longer in the film? Or are you content with Bettany? Leave your thoughts below.
