The curtain has finally been pulled back on Solo: A Star Wars Story and plenty of new information is being revealed as a result. For a long time now, fans have been wondering who Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be playing in the spinoff and the names of their characters have finally been confirmed. Both of them are new additions to the franchise and not from the Expanded Universe.

That's going to disappoint many fans (especially when there's been a lot of speculation that Newton's character is Han Solo's wife Sana Starros from the Marvel comic books) but is just the way things go since Disney purchased Lucasfilm. Anyway, as expected, Waller-Bridge is playing a motion-capture character and that will be the droid we saw alongside Lando in the Millennium Falcon's cockpit.

She's called L3-37 and some have already picked up on the fact that "L337/leet" is outdated gamer talk for "Elite." Newton's character, meanwhile, is going to be known simply as Val. That was rumoured quite some time ago and we currently know nothing about her beyond the fact she looks like a badass! As expected, Woody Harrelson is going to be known as Tobias Beckett, Han Solo's apparent mentor.

I really hope they don't completely ignore the tie-in material. I quite like the recent comics.

We literally had no Star Wars movies for 10 years and now they're coming out every year in full force (no pun intended). I'm still not sure how to feel about that.

Wouldn't be the new Star Wars without an overpowered female badass character. I trust this one will also have no explanation for her skills or abilities.
