New STAR WARS Open World Video Game In The Works From Lucasfilm Games And Ubisoft

Following yesterday's announcement that Lucasfilm Games is developing a new Indiana Jones video game with Bethesda, we have word on Ubisoft's plans for the first ever open-world Star Wars game!

We've seen quite a few Star Wars video games over the years, but while the likes of Respawn's recent Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order did allow for more exploration than the likes of Battlefront, fans have yet to experience a real open-world adventure in the galaxy far, far away.

Well, that looks set to change, because Wired reports that there's a new open-world Star Wars game in development from Lucasfilm Games and Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment.

It's still in the very early stages so details are sparse, but we do know that Julian Gerighty (The Division 2; The Crew) will serve as the game’s creative director, and the title will use Massive’s Snowdrop engine.

It was previously reported that EA would have exclusivity on Star Wars games for the next 10 years, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

"The Star Wars galaxy is an amazing source of motivation for our teams to innovate and push the boundaries of our medium," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. "Building new worlds, characters and stories that will become lasting parts of the Star Wars lore is an incredible opportunity for us, and we are excited to have our Ubisoft Massive studio working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before."

Like the previous EA games, this new title is expected to "be part of the same Star Wars canon and continuity shared across all the movies and TV shows produced since the Disney acquisition."

We'll hopefully have some updates soon, but for now, let us know what you think of this exciting news in the usual place.
