ROGUE SQUADRON: The Writer Of Patty Jenkins' STAR WARS Movie Has FINALLY Been Revealed

ROGUE SQUADRON: The Writer Of Patty Jenkins' STAR WARS Movie Has FINALLY Been Revealed

We've spent over half a year wondering who will write Rogue Squadron for director Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), and the mystery has finally been solved! Find more details on who has been hired right here.

We first heard about Rogue Squadron during Disney's Investor Day last year, and while Wonder Woman 1984 helmer Patty Jenkins was announced as the movie's director, no writer was mentioned.

That led to a lot of speculation online, but we finally have some news about the movie's scribe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Robinson, the co-writer of Ricky Gervais' The Invention of Lying, has been tapped to pen the Star Wars spinoff's screenplay. Very little has been revealed about the movie and the trade notes that it's unclear how long he's actually been attached to the project. Despite that, "sources say he is currently furiously keyboarding away on a draft."

Pre-production is expected to begin this fall with cameras rolling in 2022 for Rogue Squadron's December 22, 2023 release.

Robinson has a fair few sci-fi credits to his name, including the critically acclaimed Love and Monsters and Warner Bros.' upcoming Edge of Tomorrow sequel, Live Die Repeat and Repeat

The Star Wars franchise is in desperate need of a fresh start on the big screen after the negative response to The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, and Rogue Squadron will be the first movie release since the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga. Taika Waititi and Kevin Feige have their own big screen outings in various stages of development, but this one is expected to begin a new era of storytelling.

Are you excited to see what Robinson and Jenkins deliver with Rogue Squadron?
