STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Could Introduce A Major Expanded Universe Character - Possible SPOILERS Ahead
We have some very interesting information regarding a new lead-character that'll reportedly be introduced in J.J. Abrams' still untitled Star Wars: Episode IX. Potentially massive Spoilers after the jump.
Could Star Wars: Episode IX introduce Mara Jade to the main saga canon?
This Expanded Universe/Legends character has long been a fan-favorite, but nobody really expected the wife of Luke Skywalker to make an appearance in the films - especially after the events of The Last Jedi. However, our friends over at That Hashtag Show have shared some details on a new female lead that's currently being cast for the final installment in the trilogy, and the codename being used is Mara.
"Abrams, along with casting director Nina Gold, who has worked on both Episode VII and Episode VIII, are searching for a female lead, 40-50 years old, to play the role of "MARA." It's common practice for film's to use code names during the casting process, and that could be the case here. To be clear, we're only able to confirm that they are looking to fill the role of a female lead who they are calling "MARA."
Like they said, the name they're using may have nothing to do with the character, and could even be a deliberate attempt to throw people off track. Still, we can't ignore the possibility that Mara Jade - or a new character inspired by her - might make her live-action debut in Episode IX.
What do you guys make of this? Do you think Mara will be introduced? If so, what role do you expect her to play now that Luke is out of the picture? Sound off below.
