STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Newly Surfaced Set Photo May Confirm The Return Of A Familiar Spaceship

A first look at Star Wars: Episode IX should be with us by April, but a newly surfaced set photo may reveal a familiar ship from the past. Does that mean we're getting flashbacks to fill in some big gaps?

Star Wars: Episode IX recently wrapped shooting but that doesn't mean the leaks are over quite yet. As you can see below, a familiar ship has been spotted and despite Disney and Lucasfilm's best efforts to keep it hidden, that looks like Luke Skywalker's X-Wing!

The familiar red stripe is there and rumours are already swirling that we could get a flashback featuring a young version of the Jedi Master (possibly shedding some light on the night he decided to flee to Ahch-To or the fallout from that attack by the Knights of Ren). Either way, the last time we saw this ship, it was submerged underwater.

There is, of course, another possibility and that's a return to the Rebel base on Yavin. The X-Wing could be one of the old
fleet that the Resistance come across during this adventure. Given how badly defeated they were in The Last Jedi, it's also possible the heroes are having to use old, outdated ships.

Either way, with a trailer and
title reveal expected during Star Wars Celebration in April, we'll find out a whole lot more very soon...

I don't think any other Star Wars film ever used flashback scenes...that I could think of...other than Last Jedi (Luke) and Force Awakens (Rey) and Rogue One (Jyn). It suggests to me that the reliance of it means they have too much story that was skipped through.

I wonder if they keep the title reveal for the first trailer, just like with Endgame

@MalseMarcel - I think that’s exactly what is going to happen. They will release the trailer at Celebration with the title revealed at the end. Which will also be just in time to attach the trailer to Endgame.

This could just be the one from TLJ.

Thinking about it; it's kind of ridiculous that, even at the age he was when he considered murdering Kylo, he was still flying around the X-wing. The last time we saw it in the OT was on Bespin, and he obviously left on the Falcon. Did Cloud City just keep it in-case its owner returned? Is there a comic or something about this?

@Nebula - But that one was on the bottom of the ocean

No wait.. he has it in ROTJ too. But my question still stands.

@Bucht - That's what I'm saying. Maybe it's a different one which they added the same rank-line-things too.

@Soos - Yeah, you'd think he'd move onto something other than a fighter given that the war is over. Even if there were remnants of the Empire or whatever, Luke isn't participating, he's training force-kids. I can't picture an old Luke all cramped up in that cockpit.

Also you'd think the Rebellion might want it back given that they're apparently fending for scraps and using outdated vehicles. Surely they've only got a limited amount. But that bit's beside the point.
