STAR WARS: James Mangold's BOBA FETT Movie May Not Start Shooting Before 2020
Excitement is understandably high to see what Logan director James Mangold will bring to the table with that long-delayed Boba Fett movie but a new report points to us having to wait for quite some time...
Last month, it was revealed that Logan writer and director James Mangold is currently hard at work developing a standalone movie for iconic Star Wars character Boba Fett. The spinoff has been in the works for years now but after Josh Trank was fired from the project, it was seemingly put on the backburner by Lucasfilm. Well, while it may now be a priority, it seems we'll be waiting for a while.
Omega Underground points out that Mangold's next movie is Ford vs. Ferrari which looks set to start shooting over the summer. As a result, that means the filmmaker will be unable to start working on Boba Fett until 2019, a sign that production probably wouldn't begin until 2020, putting the movie on track for a 2021/2022 release at the soonest. Right now, that feels like a very, very long time away.
What Lucasfilm's plans for Star Wars are over the next few years remains to be seen. Episode IX is obviously coming next year but we have no idea if the studio has anything planned for 2020 (making it the first year since 2014 we won't have had a Star Wars movie to watch in theaters). With any luck, work on Obi-Wan Kenobi or one of those planned trilogies will start sooner rather than later.
