It's probably safe to assume that we won't be seeing Mark Hamill return as a force ghost for Star Wars: Episode IX. The actor has sent out a Tweet which pokes a bit of fun at the iconic character's demise.

Luke Skywalker's death in Star Wars: The Last Jedi was as divisive as the movie itself, with some of the opinion that the ageing warrior was given the poignant, peaceful sendoff he deserved, and others left feeling disappointed that the iconic character wouldn't play a more heroic role in Episode IX.

There was always hope that Luke would return as a force ghost to guide Rey on the final stage of her journey, but if the Tweet below from Mark Hamill is any indication, that's probably not going to happen!

Hamill is known for poking some good-natured fun at The Last Jedi and Star Wars in general, so we could be reading too much into this. That said, if Luke was set to return for Episode IX, something tells us he probably wouldn't have sent this Tweet!

This stunt casting isn't going to make me watch IX, Disney. If you think bringing back Alec Guinness is going to work you are WRONG!

It would have have been possibly bearable if after a few years in a writing room, Kennedy and Abrahams emerged with a 3 film trilogy plan and went with it.

At least they could say...”yes, we know not all the decisions will be embraced but they are all to move the story along and all pieces to our greater three film tapestry.”

But knowing that they are just winging each film...to see how they respond...

To that point, Rian Johnson gets all the heat, but folks forget that it was Abrams' film who put Skywalker on a secluded planet in hiding for some unknown reason. Don't know how you justify Luke's decision to hide out without having his character be different in SOME way to the Luke we were left with in RotJ.

Mark is all of us. Thank God he's been so honest through all of this though. Otherwise you'd just be subjected to Rian Johnson and the rest of the cast and Disney playing Yes-Man telling you how great the film was and that any of your complaints are just a result of trolling or misogyny. Hamill said it from the beginning. Something just wasn't right. If that was his actual last appearance on film, this trilogy has kind of been a waste of what came before. Not just Luke, Leia, Han, Akbar, everything held so sacred for 30+ years is being tossed aside and are going out with a whimper instead of as legends. Without Kylo Ren, I would not care about a single new character introduced.

Bless that man...he's man enough to admit the truth...that the Last Jedi was a gigantic piece of sh*t...with an uninteresting lead and an unintentional hilariously horrendous sissy hipster Vader.

@LordHarryLatts - I agree with you 100% however I feel that the only thing that has shown any kind of promise from this new trilogy has been Ben Solo's arc.

It's honestly the only reason I will be seeing Ep. IX on opening night (if at all). I was so so so disappointed with TLJ. And re-watching it hasn't done me any favors.

@L0RDbuckethead - I think about the second that Vader hits the screen in Rogue One...the excitement, the buzz, the gasps...the theater was electric. Just incredible to see how EVERYONE reacted to it.

@LordHarryLatts - Yeah I saw RO on opening night and the crowd went apeshit for that reveal.

On the flip side, I was there opening night for SOLO and there were hardly any people who reacted to the Maul reveal, surprisingly.
