not a huge SW fan but i have to chuckle cause you could tell Johnson could careless about what JJ was building towards lol lol hahahhaha

@knocturnalzen10 - To be fair, I’m not sure Abrams knew what he was even building towards. He just lazily created a massive mystery box for others to figure out.

knocturnalzen10 - 7/16/2019, 8:12 AM
@PlusUltra - i think he had a rough idea at least ... cause i think the mystery box with rey could've been a different road for the sky walkers . Especially with her parents left unknown and her grips with the force ... who knows but i think he had an ok lay out .... hardest thing is SW are so hardcore that changing elements creates giant problems .... when i was looking at josh's cash grab list , i was just reminded of the knights of ren , that me think mannnnnn johnson said nothing of them but found it better to show us intergalactic animal racing :/...... i guess

@knocturnalzen10 - I honestly don’t think he did, because if he did, there would’ve been a layout set in stone that Lucasfilm would’ve enforced Rian to follow, but they didn’t. But not only that, the way Abrams’ handled it came across like he was just creating loose ends for the sake of it. There’s a lot Abrams could’ve addressed and touched on in TFA, but instead, he touched on none of it. That to me is enough to make me believe Abrams didn’t have any sort of plan.

knocturnalzen10 - 7/16/2019, 8:22 AM
@PlusUltra - fair enough ... i think some of the loose would've been applicable picked up in this installment . i can definitely be wrong , but as i stated i think he tried an unconventional direction with the series outside of what damaged Ep1-3 so badly .... you want fresh takes on this universe and i think he had a better idea of something compared to what Johnson gave us .... visually Johnson's film was better than JJ's but story wise , Johnson created madness throughout that film imo .

FireandBlood - 7/16/2019, 8:30 AM
@knocturnalzen10 - Regardless of what you or I think about Johnson’s story, I’m sure we can both agree that, for better or worse, it was original. Abrams’ was pretty much a rehash of the original, except he left a plethora of loose ends for others to tie up. Considering the way this trilogy is turning out now,

@PlusUltra - TLJ was a lot more rehash of ESB than TFA was of ANH. It's almost like they gave him a checklists of what to include and told them to fill in the rest. Ruin Johnson just got super weird on the fill in the rest part

Start off the movie under attach from the enemy
Have ship trouble while fleeing
Jedi master reluctantly trains our hero
Work in some comic relief during a scene involving a meal
The main antagonists conspire to turn our hero to the dark side
Have a dark side avatar call out to our hero from a cave
Have a group of protagonists seek help in a luxurious city on a remote planet.
Find a way to work gambling into the story
Have this group make a new shady friend
Get betrayed by the new shady friend.
Have our hero arrogantly abandon what little training they've had
Have a protagonist taken off the board temporarily in a shocking way
Have our hero escape our main protagonist in an absurd way
Have a group of protagonists flee while the main antagonist is distracted by Luke

@knocturnalzen10 - To me the Emperor has always been the most laughable villain ever. I mean how could you even take this dude serious. Just grab this sucker by his scrawny little neck and punch him in his gonads… He done

No I don't think we will. He ripped of the ending from Escape from LA, and it looks like he just copied bits of Empire and Jedi...he IS a terrible writer/Director.

@knocturnalzen10 - The difference between Star Wars and the MCU is that in the MCU no one knows the whole story running from movie to movie except Feige... and in Star Wars there is no overarching story so it does appear very haphazard.
SpideyQuad
SpideyQuad - 7/18/2019, 12:25 PM
@PeterCipher - I guess that just shows how uninterested I've become since the Empire strikes back. After that movie Lucas was obviously more interested in toys sales and being cute, In my opinion

The most believable remark is that the movie will end with Rey broadcasting the 'story of Star Wars' across the entire universe - giving rise to new heroes to take up the legacy.

This was sort of where Episode 8 was trying to go, the idea of inspiring a new resistance. Imagine that dumb scene with the kid and the broom and expand that to the entire universe. Keep in mind that Disney wants to spin-off Star Wars as much as possible, what better way to do so than having the entire galaxy be 'inspired' by the story of Luke Skywalker (Obviously ignoring his murder attempt and utter uselessness in Episode 8)

Regardless, the franchise is dead and a lot of people are going to just watch this online or for free simply to see how bad it is.

I wonder if Disney™ is feeling anxious knowing that this opens the same day as the movie event of the year, Tom Hooper's Cats.
Vanillain
Vanillain - 7/16/2019, 8:29 AM
@tmp3 - It depends on what the movie will actually look like. Sounds like there's some questionable decisions they've made in adapting Cats and I still don't know how to feel about the approach on real-life looking cats. If anything, it can serve as counter programming... maybe.
tmp3
tmp3 - 7/16/2019, 8:30 AM
@Vanillain - I was joshing, Cats has the potential to be an utter train-wreck with Sonic-level grotesque character designs.

Didn't think it was possible for Disney to release a worse film than TLJ? Don't worry, they're putting together the dream team to make it happen!

"It's said that this alien not only fixes Ren's mask but helps him activate a device which will allow the villain and his Knights achieve their goals. Your guess is as good as ours when it comes to what that might mean"

It's time travel. They're right. The more you think about it, you know that's what's happening next.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I'm almost afraid Mike's time travel theory is spot-on. I would, however, love to see a Palpatine corpse worshipped by evil Ewoks.

FleischerSupes - 7/16/2019, 9:10 AM
@SpideyPuffsMJ - Given the writers they mentioned, the theory that Shmi was actually Rey somehow sent back in time, seems so deeply troubling that it's almost plausible.
