Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was originally supposed to be directed by
Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow but some last-minute "creative differences" led to Lucasfilm turning to J.J. Abrams to take charge of the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga. He brought writer Chris Terrio with him but it seems at least some of Trevorrow's ideas will still be included.
According to
Collider, the Writers Guild of America has decided that
Episode IX will include a
"Story by Derek Connolly & Colin Trevorrow and Chris Terrio & J. J. Abrams" credit.
We may never know how much of the story that makes it to the big screen was dreamed up by Trevorrow but he was going to serve as both co-writer and director so you have to believe he contributed a lot before Lucasfilm decided he wasn't the right fit for this story in a Galaxy Far, Far Away.
Trevorrow is currently busy planning out the next
Jurassic World movie but it's said that as an official co-writer, he should receive a decent amount of residuals (and seeing as
The Rise of Skywalker will earn at least $1 billion, that's not a bad haul at all). The final screenplay, however, will be credited solely to Terrio and Abrams.
