After years of construction and waiting, the Anaheim location for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is now open for business. Part of the park's grand opening festivities included introductions for franchise legends, including George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, and last but not least, Harrison Ford.

Yesterday, Ford was tasked to open the park at the site of the Millennium Falcon, dedicating the park and the ride to his late friend and Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew. Both Carrie Fisher and Peter Mayhew, who passed away last month, had a powerful presence during the ceremonies.

Check out Ford's dedication below:

This is pretty awesome. I hope Chewbacca gets something to do in ROS, but knowing Disney they won't.

@Fogs - Ford started to get more enthusiastic about SW when they started paying him again :)

I know a lot of people (at the time) were upset to see Force Awakens sidelining the original Star Wars characters (and that got magnified with Last Jedi), but I feel like Disney has vastly overcorrected.

The handling of the G1 characters in the movies could have been better, sure, but they've been sucking all the oxygen out of the room and leaving very little space for the new characters (especially Rey and Finn who were genuinely engaging in their introduction). I get that this is a nostalgia-oriented theme park dealy, so having the old crew there makes sense, and I tend not to pay attention to the movie press tour that highlights the new folks, but... I just feel like Ford was ready to be done with this stuff, but here he is again, you know?

While I'm not someone who really bitches about the specific narrative decisions in this franchise, the franchise management overall just feels so fumbled. Like they can't find a happy medium to anything. It's either pure fanservice or fairly radical redefinition.

@Spock0Clock - Totally agree here. It's fairly obvious that they had little to no idea of what direction to take the franchise in once it was acquired from Lucasfilm.

And as a result -- like you said -- we've seen the mash-up of "too much" fan service and "too much" redefinition (from the stories of the previous EU, now 'Legends,' canon).

@Spock0Clock - Also, the death of Carrie Fisher probably didn't help either.

I wish there'd been something like this when I was a kid and obsessed over each SW movie as they came out, especially ROTJ.

Also, I'm going to wax nostalgic for a second about the MGM Star Wars ride in Disney World. As a kid, I enjoyed waiting in line for that ride so much, because of the massive AT-AT outside. (To a ten year old, it felt life-size, but I'm pretty sure it's actually pretty dinky half-scale or something.)

It was like going to a museum and seeing a dinosaur skeleton. This awesome thing was real. For all the moaning, Disney is where Star Wars belongs, because they will build absurd theme parks and displays like this which will impact the lives of fans and kids for decades in less obvious ways than a bungled movie here or there.

It’s a mission and a half to get reservations to go. They don’t open up to stand by till the end of June. What do I even have an annual pass for

Why does this feel special to see? Seeing George Lucas there with Harrison, Mark and Billy just felt heartwarming tbh. Idk why. But this was sweet. I would like it to be known that I did shed a tear.

Rumor is Han is Rey's father from another woman after he split with Lea. Not surprised for Disney if this ends up being true.

This is really sweet, but sadly also serves as a reminder of how badly they shat the bed with the sequels for no reason at all.
