It's been a very stressful couple of weeks for fans of
The Expanse, one of the best sci-fi shows currently on television. In a very shocking and surprising move, Syfy canceled its critically acclaimed hit series after three seasons (the third season is currently airing). This cancellation resulted in a dedicated and passionate campaign by fans to rescue the show, including fan petitions and even flying a "Save the Expanse" banner over the Amazon Studios headquarters in Santa Monica.
After a dedicated campaign by fans and producers Alcon Television Group, Amazon has officially rescued the show and renewed it for a fourth season on Amazon Prime. Earlier today, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced that
The Expanse had been saved while standing next to the show's cast at the International Space Development Conference.
For some, this announcement is not too surprising as it had been looking for the past few days like Amazon would rescue the show, especially since Jeff Bezos is a major fan of
The Expanse and the books on which the show is based. Alcon Entertainment co-founders co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson had the following to say about Amazon rescuing their series:
We couldn’t be more excited that The Expanse is going to continue on Amazon Prime! We are deeply grateful that Jeff Bezos, [new Amazon Studios head] Jen Salke, and their team at Amazon have shown such faith in our show. We also want to thank Laura Lancaster, head of Alcon Television for her tireless efforts. We are fully aware that this wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the staggering outpouring of support from the most creative, hardest working sci-fi fans around the world. From reddit campaigns to airplanes, we say thank you. It worked!
