X-MEN Star Halle Berry Signs On For Roland Emmerich's Sci-Fi Disaster Movie, MOONFALL

Roland Emmerich's upcoming sci-fi disaster flick Moonfall has added an Academy Award-winner to its cast in the form of Halle Berry (X-Men, Monster's Ball), who will join the already-on-board Josh Gad...

For some, a new Roland Emmerich movie is cause for celebration. For others, it's a cause for eye-rolling. Whatever side of the fence you happen to land on, there's no denying that the divisive director's latest sci-fi disaster flick has begun to assemble an impressive cast.

Following the news that Josh Gad (Beauty and the Beast) has signed on to play the lead in Moonfall, THR reports that Academy Award-winner Halle Berry (X-Men, John Wick Chapter 3) has also joined the project.

The plot of the movie deals with the aftermath of the moon being knocked from its orbit by a mysterious force and set on a collision course with Earth. A team is then assembled and sent on a perilous mission to land on the lunar surface and save the planet. Berry will play an astronaut-turned-NASA administrator whose previous mission holds a clue to the catastrophe. Gad's character is the eccentric genius who deduces that the moon has fallen out of its orbit.

If you're thinking this sounds very similar to Michael Bay's 1998 actioner Armageddon... you're right.

Emmerich co-wrote the script with Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen, and will also produce under his Centropolis banner. Lionsgate is eyeing a fall production start, but that's obviously subject to change.
