Mark Hamill - " [Star Wars] Is Now In The Hands Of The Generation Who Were Fans"
Mark Hamill on returning to the sci-fi franchise that made him a star. " "The most interesting aspect from my point of view is that [Star Wars] is now in the hands of the generation who were fans.…It’s the next generation of filmmakers who were sort of weened on these pictures."
Sorry nostalgic Flash and Batman: TAS fans, Mark Hamill will always be Luke Skywalker, no matter how many other characters he plays and films he's features in. Case in point, while doing press for Fox's Kingsman: The Secret Service, Hamill almost spent more time talking about Disney's Star Wars: The Force Awakens and what that means for a new generation of fans. "The most interesting aspect from my point of view is that [Star Wars] is now in the hands of the generation who were fans.…It’s the next generation of filmmakers who were sort of weened on these pictures."
As far as keeping his Episode VII costume under wraps, Hamill says he was amazed by the level of security and secrecy as compared to when he made Empire Strikes Back. " I’m surprised I can even admit I’m in it! …I like being surprised. It’s a whole different era now. When we made the original films, you had the odd reporter hanging around the studio bribing people to give them stories. Now, I said to them, ‘Do I really have to wear this robe and this hood that covers my entire head to go from the trailer to the soundstage?’ They said, ‘Yeah, there’s drones.’ Seriously! There’s drones flying over the studio trying to get pictures of whatever they can get pictures of.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in US theaters on December 15, 2015.
