The death of Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was heartbreaking, and it's a decision many fans of the franchise still hold against director J.J. Abrams. In the video below, the filmmaker sheds some light on Kylo Ren's motivations and why Ben Solo ended up killing his father. Some believe that he was always planning to murder Han, but Abrams confirms that the Sith was in fact conflicted.

Of course, we won't learn more about how Kylo felt about making this fateful decision until Star Wars Episode VIII is released next year. For now, Disney is hoping we'll all fork out for the 3D collector's edition of the movie, especially as it will include this director's commentary. That will no doubt feature a lot of other very interesting behind the scenes reveals and stories like this, so it may be worth it!

I wish they had tried to make his death less predictable, but we all knew he was going to die. It was the way it happened. It lacked weight imo because you could see it coming from parsecs (pun intended) away.

Kylo isn't a sith. They've said that quite a few times.. Perhaps once his "training is complete" but Snoke doesn't think overly highly of the sith either. They are some kind of new hybrid of dark jedi and sith perhaps. Or they just have a different point of view... Although their approach was basically exactly the same - build giant weapon, try and eradicate all enemies in one shot, etc.

Isn't that part of 'The Hero's Journey'?
The hero must lose their mentor?

Obi-Wan lost Qui-Gon
Luke lost Obi-Wan
Rey lost Han Solo

In Episode 10
Rey will sacrifice herself and our new hero will get to scream, "Nooooo!!!!!!"

By far the most stupid part of this movie. Seriously knocks it down two pegs for me.

People shit on the prequels but Episode three's climactic battle scene makes TFA's look like shit imo.

I enjoyed TFA but a a lot of it was paint by numbers. But I guess it kind of had to be, to reign in a new generation of fans who were unfamiliar with SW.
