SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Merchandise Reveals Best Look Yet At The Great Protector SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Merchandise Reveals Best Look Yet At The Great Protector

The teaser trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings only scratched the surface of what we can expect from the film, and some new merchandise offers a detailed look at a mythical creature!

Marvel Studios shared the first trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings earlier this week, but it seems that only scratched the surface of what a crazy film this will be.

While leaked Funko Pops have already revealed The Great Protector, a mythical water dragon of some sort, a much closer look at the creature has now been showcased in another round of merchandise for Shang-Chi's big screen debut. Likely a fresh, less stereotypical take on Fin Fang Foom, The Great Protector appears to be an ally to the master of the martial arts.

In Chinese culture, dragons are strongly associated with water and weather. They are believed to be the rulers of moving bodies of water, such as waterfalls, rivers, or seas, and it seems Marvel Studios will lean heavily into that mythology in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

The film's teaser trailer did a solid job of introducing us to Shang-Chi, but it's looking a lot like future trailers will reveal more about the character's ties to his home's real-life mythology.

So we got the Great Protector, Fin Fang Foom, and Shou-Lao the Undying?

Too many dragons...

As a sucker for old Kung Fu films, I loved what I seen from the action in the trailer.

But the overall tone of the trailer gave me very Ant-Man and The Wasp vibes...

Looks a bit short for my liking of asian dragons. But hey, if there's a dragon, I'm there day one.

There can never be enough dragons. The Great Protector is also a pretty cool name

I guess I'm missing something - what is a "stereotypical take" on a dragon, or on Fin Fang Foom?

Mr. Protector, I served with Fin Fang Foom, I knew Fin Fang Foom, and you sir are no Fin Fang Foom.

I don't understand why so many people are convinced The Great Protector is Fin Fang Foom. Given his name, the fact that he seems to be siding against the Mandarin, and his general design (aside from color palette), as well as the green-and-yellow dressed warrior in the trailer, I feel like it's less of a stretch to assume The Great Protector is Shou Lao.

The assumption that it's Fin Fang Foom is a little bit like watching the trailer for Iron Man 2 and wondering why Mickey Rourke's take on Red Guardian is so weird.

@contrast - I mean, I do remember at the time a lot of people wondering why Rourke’s Crimson Dynamo was so weird.

I'm guessing that this is a dragon that Xialing summons to help in the battle against the Mandarin's forces as they attack the village in the hopes of freeing Fin Fang Foom.
