SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Smashes Expectations For A Mighty Marvel Box Office Debut SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Smashes Expectations For A Mighty Marvel Box Office Debut

Simu Liu's Shang-Chi is definitely proving himself a worthy Avenger, because Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has smashed expectations at the box office. As of right now, the Marvel Studios movie is on track to scoring the second biggest opening of 2021, topping F9: The Fast Saga to sit comfortably behind Black Widow

According to THR, after grossing $32.2 million on Saturday, its estimated three-day total has risen to $71.4 million. As a result, it sits between Black Widow's $80.3 million and F9's $70 million.

Shang-Chi also looks set to earn a whopping $83.5 million over the four-day Labor Day weekend, easily besting Halloween's $30.6 million opening back in 2007. This is a big win for the theatrical experience, and a sign that movies such as Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Eternals will open in multiplexes as planned.

Deadline, meanwhile, notes that an impressive $56.2 million overseas opening has taken Shang-Chi up to a $139.7 million global cume. It also broke records in the UK, scoring a $7.7 million debut that's actually the best of the pandemic era. The title character may not be particularly well-known to non-fans, but that Marvel Studios branding and a solid marketing campaign has clearly paid off.

In our latest review of the Marvel Studios movie, we concluded by saying: "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is nothing short of action movie perfection; this is the MCU like you’ve never seen before, and it’s no exaggeration to say Simu Liu was born to play the MCU’s newest Avenger."

Have you watched Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings yet?

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - watched yesterday, was nice and different.

Kinda gerting tired of the over the uber CGI fest in the final battle tho. Hard to not phase out sometimes.

@Fogs - I get the feeling that I would enjoy the movie up until the end because of the overwhelming CGI in the final battle.

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - it’s better on imax.

@Fogs - yeah and it didn't really make much sense. Up until that point it was all about intense martial arts fights. Then at the very end it becomes a mix of Asian lord of the rings and dragon ball z with a creature that barely was explained beforehand.

@Liverpool4life - yes it is.

Saw it three times (twice in LieMax) since Thursday’s 6pm opening.

Also F&#K Bob Chapek.

Despite his very bestest efforts to skunk this movie, it is vastly over performing tracking and royally slapping the crap out of his busted ‘Day-and-Date’ narrative.

@Fogs - it’s why the original Ant-Man worked out so well. Final battle was contained to a toy train set in a child’s bedroom.

@Fogs - Yeah I was saying to my wife that I wish they'd do more on vacation shooting too. I understand we may get a fair bit in Eternals though so that will hopefully be a breath of fresh air.

@SauronthePower - hahahha well played. The craziest stuff was shown beforehand tho. There was an escalation to it and his powers led to that scene.

BUT anyway I'm not saying SC is bad in any way. Was cool and different, which is a big compliment nowadays.

@Catmanlives - hope to be positively surprised by Eternals too, cause I'm not expecting much from that one.

Saw it yesterday. Awesome movie! Marvel's triumphant return to the form that started MCU over a decade ago and made it great.

One line I laughed hysterically at was when the old man say something and Wenwu was like “watch yourself young man I’ve lived a thousand of your lives”

@Timerider84 - They already announced it will hit D+ after 45 days and there was no indication that it would be premium access (which is odd imo).
Timerider84
Timerider84 - 9/5/2021, 2:08 PM
@JDL - it will, just look at Cruella and Black Widow, you'll pay for it first, then it will be free. That's your option, if you want it earlier.

@JDL - it will be premium access at first.

Saw it last night, damn it was good, like really good.

Its the first post Infinity Saga MCU project to really wow me. Really I’d say its the best of the Avengers Generation 2 first outings.

1. Shang-Chi and The Legend Of The Ten Rings
2. Black Panther
3. Doctor Strange
4. Captain Marvel

One thing that for sure puts it above the rest are Shang-Chi and his father, this is one of the few cases where the villain and hero are just as interesting as the other. For sure the best superhero movie of the year

1. Shang-Chi and The Legend Of the Ten Rings
2. The Suicide Squad
3. Black Widow
4. Justice League

Put it in the top 5 of mcu films
