SHAZAM! Director David F. Sandberg Hilariously Shuts Down A "Rumor" That He's Been Fired From The Film

In one simple tweet, director David F. Sandberg responds to Reddit nonsense that he was fired from Shazam! and thrown out of studio offices because he wanted to make a dark and "gritty" superhero film.

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg has once again cleverly shot down rumors regarding the DC Extended Universe and his future with the film.

Taking to his Twitter account, Sandberg highlighted a passage from the DCEUleaks subreddit which claimed he was fired for wanting to make a "dark and gritty, sexy and violent" R-rated version of Shazam! Even more ridiclously, the passage went on to claim that studio execs tore apart the script and kicked him out of the office.

How does one respond to such an outlandish claim? Sandberg simply called the DCEUleaks subreddit "the best."

This isn't the first time that Sandberg has poked fun as this wild speculation either. Earlier this week he responded to rumors that Warner Bros. was pulling the plug on the DC Films Universe by simply asking, "Can I take the day off tomorrow then? I really want to sleep in."

Of course, anyone who has been following news of Shazam! knows pre-production is well underway. Asher Angel has been cast as Billy Batson, the youngster who transforms into the powerful adult superhero (played by Zachary Levi in the film) by speaking the magic word “Shazam!”, an acronym for ancient gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury. In his adult form, he wields superhuman strength, speed, flight, and more. Most recently, Kyle Gardiner who served as stunt coordinator on Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok and Warner Bros' upcoming DCEU production Aquaman, has reportedly been hired to oversee stunts in the film.

As you can see, Shazam! is doing just fine, and it's nice to see David F. Sandberg take this sillt speculation in his stride. Shazam! is aiming to begin production on February 5 in Toronto, with a theatrical release set for April 5, 2019.
