With a lighter tone than other films set in the DC Extended Universe, 2019's Shazam! stuck closely to the comic books and delivered a mostly accurate take on the characters. That included a Wizard who looked like he'd stepped straight out of the source material, though this concept art reveals a vastly different take on the ancient hero.
Shared by artist Jerad S. Marantz, this Wizard has no beard or long hair, and is instead wearing makeup that makes him look more like a Voodoo priest than anything else.
The costume itself remains somewhat similar, though he's definitely younger in appearance and not a traditional "wizard." It's easy enough to understand why Warner Bros. ultimately chose to stay faithful to the comics, but seeing him reinvented this way for Black Adam - assuming he appears in the parts of the film detailing the anti-hero's origin story - could be a lot of fun.
As well as Black Adam, the studio is also developing a Shazam! sequel titled Shazam! Fury of the Gods. That's expected to begin shooting next year, and will be released in June 2023.
