Shazam is set to start shooting next year and lead star Zachary Levi has revealed in a new interview why he expects the DC Comics adaptation to find a similar level of success to Guardians of the Galaxy.

Warner Bros. has only one DC Comics movie on the way in 2018 and that's Aquaman. The studio is looking to change that in 2019 with the release of Shazam and Suicide Squad 2 along with a number of other rumoured (and long overdue) titles. Right now, though, Shazam is definitely the most intriguing and Zachary Levi has revealed in a new interview why he expects the movie to exceed expectations.

"James Gunn and the gang killed it," the actor said in regards to Guardians of the Galaxy. "It brought so much heart and humor and yeah, I think it was kind of like this dark horse that took everybody by storm and I think Shazam kind of has the possibility to do that because Shazam’s not, for all intents and purposes, not Supes it’s not Batman, it’s not Wonder Woman, it’s not what people [expect.]"

By bringing magic into the DC Films Universe, this will obviously be a very different sort of superhero movie and the entire concept of a child who can transform into a powerful being like Shazam is definitely as unique as Guardians of the Galaxy when those characters were brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I hope so, because this whole DCEU fiasco is getting out of control.

@RoninHawkeye - I was hoping for a Flash movie (not Flashpoint) before Suicide Squad 2.

@MrMe - Flashpoint should happen now.

@InfiniteCipher - Yeah, I seem to be in the minority with that idea. If the DCEU had been set up right, Flashpoint would've been a perfect 3rd Flash movie and a good way to recast alot of the actors after they've all had their trilogies. But, aside from MoS and WW, WB has really f'd up their universe.

@Grodd87 - Still need a reboot. I cant stand seeing Justice League failing a second time.

@Shanksman - I know it sounds stupid but the chemistry between all characters in dceu is great. Justice league had good chemistry and so did squad. Bad villains and some bad casting can be fixed. But the foundation they have can be a solid one.

It is? I found it meddling at best.

Shazam should be unique but Guardians wouldn’t really be my comparison. I’d hope they shoot for more of a superhero version of Big.

@Atomicockroach - Nice, didn’t watch the video on this so I’m glad that was mentioned. Shame that the writer didn’t include that detail in this article.

GotG aren't really the first thing that would come to my mind thinking about Shazam, but...well, he's not the director, so...

I hope he's right. There's no more margin for errors in the cinematic DCU.

Anyways, there's not much to gain from being associated with the shared DCU the way it currently is. I suspect the Shazam/Captain Marvel movie will have little to no relation with the overall DCU.

@johnnymarr - Problem with the dceu is it started with zacharys unique grey style. Xmen and mcu universe's work because iron mans look was relatively simple.

Its hard to build a universe, with everything looking so grey.

For the record, I want this film to work. Any successful comic book movie is a win for the entire industry.

But I feel sorry for the talent involved at this point. This whole thing is a mess & it's deeply disappointing.
