Following the game-changing news that Spider-Man is set to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ryan Reynolds has taken to social media to reveal the chances of us getting a Deadpool/Spider-Man crossover!

As things stand, Spider-Man is set to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe to return to Sony Pictures' Spider-Verse. The news comes after Disney and Sony failed to reach an agreement over the wall-crawler's big screen future, and fans have been left reeling over the prospect of an MCU which doesn't include Tom Holland's webbed warrior.

Now that Deadpool is one of Marvel Studios' characters, there was a chance that Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth could cross paths with Spidey, and that was something which was actually rumoured to be in the works not too long ago.

Well, it's definitely not happening now, and when one fan took to Twitter last night to ask Reynolds whether this means we can get a Spider-Man/Deadpool crossover movie (they clearly don't know where the rights to these characters are at the moment), the actor came back with a hilariously perfect response:

Honestly, this news is heartbreaking, so it's nice to have a little levity about the situation!

If nothing else, the memes that have been doing the rounds over the past twelve hours or so have been a lot of fun, and they go some way in softening the blow following Spidey's MCU departure.

If it wasn't for DP, F4, X-men and all the other Fox characters i would much more furious right now. As it stand Marvel is 98% complete. This isn't 2014.

I guess we’ll just have to watch Sony make Spider-Man movies again. The MCU will continue to move on. Both sides had to have a contingency plan if this deal went sideways.

Gotta love the trolling from ryan. Admittedly i felt they got the character right for team ups, but considering how they handled things with far from home and how spiderverse worked so well, at least we can get a faithful interpretation of spidey.
