Marvel & Sony Set A Release Date For The SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel

Marvel & Sony Set A Release Date For The SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel

Well, this is a little unexpected, but Sony Pictures & Marvel Studios have set a release date for the inevitable sequel to next year's Tom Holland-starrer Spider-Man: Homecoming. Come check it out!

The trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming may have just landed online late last night, but Sony Pictures is already thinking ahead... way ahead.

Just moments ago, the studio announced that a sequel to Homecoming will arrive in theaters on July 5, 2019 with Tom Holland, of course, reprising his role as Peter Parker.

Announcing a sequel this early isn't exactly Marvel's M.O., but considering that this is Spider-Man - their biggest property ever - we're talking about and Sony is co-producing the project, it's not really a huge surprise that they wanted to reserve a good date long before the first installment hit theaters. No word yet on the rest of the cast and crew, but expect to see more than a handful of returning faces come 2019.

At the moment, the only major competition will come in the form of Transformers 7, which releases a week earlier, but Spidey will likely benefit from the extended Fourth of July weekend, which is coincidentally the same weekend Spider-Man 2 was released on back in 2004. This news also seemingly confirms that the sequel will be the first chapter in Marvel's Phase 4 as the yet-to-be titled Avengers 4 releases in May of that calendar year.

In other news, Sony also pushed up Bad Boys 4, which will return both Will Smith & Martin Lawrence, to May 24, 2019 - Memorial Day weekend. The third installment, tentatively titled Bad Boys For Life, is expected to hit theaters January 12, 2018.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
