Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Far From Home is off to an astonishing start at the domestic box office, webbing up a massive six-day opening of $185.1 million, which includes a near-record $93.6 million over the Fourth of July weekend.

The critically acclaimed Jon Watts-directed superhero blockbuster has now amassed over $580 million worldwide ($185.1M domestic; $395M foreign), already making it the sixth-highest grossing movie of the year.

While Far From Home did manage to secure the biggest six-day July 4th opening of all-time, edging past Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 ($180M not adjusted for inflation), its opening weekend fell just short of Paramount's Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($97.8M) to take the record for biggest Independence Day opening weekend ever.

In other news, Marvel's Avengers: Endgame pulled in another $4.4 million worldwide over the weekend, bringing its global total to $2.772 billion ($847.86M domestic; $1.9246B foreign). The film is now approximately $15.5 million behind James Cameron's Avatar for the all-time global record. Now, whether or not, Endgame will be able to secure the record before the end of its initial box office run remains to be seen as the re-release is expected to leave most theaters on July 11th, so Marvel fans may have to literally do whatever it takes over the next few weeks to bring home the gold.

The MCU Spidey villains have been on point. They've taken C-list villains like Vulture and Mysterio and turned them into some of the best MCU antagonists. Just imagine what they'll do with Doc Ock and Osbourne.

@Nightwing1015 - SPOILER: if they have Spider-Man on the run, someone will need to hunt him down...

@JDL - If I had to think of a story I would start with Peter struggling in school due to the reveal, although Flash will start liking him. Then he would be questioned by the police, but saved by Matt Murdock. Mac Gargan (Scorpion) would start paying people on the outside targetting Peter and anyone close to him. This would make Peter go on the run but someone (maybe Norman Osborne) would hire Kraven, the main villain, to hunt him down.

2019 has been the greatest year for Marvel studios. I’m happy I have witnessed so much great storytelling and I look forward to more. These movies all deserved their box office earnings.

@PantherKing - Wasn't a fan of Captain Marvel (my third least favorite film of the MCU) but DAMN did they kill it with Far From Home and Endgame

@MrDandy - I liked Capt. Marvel for what it was as an origin story but felt like a filler episode on DBZ or any other anime you can relate too.

Now this week I'll be excited to watch Shazam on Tuesday comes out on Blu-ray!

Why would Endgame leave theaters if it's still making money? On Boxofficemojo there are movies shown still in theaters making only a couple of thousand dollars for the weekend. Somehow I doubt that Endgame leaves theaters prior to the record.
