The Huffington Post's Mike Ryan spoke with director Sam Raimi about his new film Oz: The Great and Powerful, and asked him if he had seen Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. Check it out!

In 2010, Sony Pictures squashed plans for a fourth Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man, which would of featured John Malkovich as The Vulture. Sony then set out upon a course to reboot the franchise with Marc Webb ("500 Days of Summer") at the helm, which lead to 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, which starred Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

After the film was released many fans wanted to know if Sam Raimi had seen the film, and at that time he had not. So, many months later Huffington Post's Mike Ryan caught up with Raimi and decided to see if the director had finally had a chance to view it.

"Well, I'm a big Marc Webb fan and a giant fan of Emma Stone. And of Andrew Garfield. I saw him on Broadway in "Death of a Salesman" -- it's just brilliant. And I love the producers of that movie because they are dear friends, and the writer. But, I haven't had the guts to go see the movie yet. Because I don't want to go to my girlfriend's wedding. I just can't bring myself to do it. I don't have the guts. But, I hear it's great. My wife even loved the picture and said it was a wonderful, excellently produced, beautifully acted, brilliantly written Spider-Man picture. She'd tell me the truth and that's what she said." - Sam Raimi

Sam definitely didn't come off as bitter about the whole situation as he wished Webb and his Spidey franchise the best of luck.

"I think I handed the torch to Marc and I hear that he ran with it and succeeded and made a brilliant picture. I'm happy for him and all the team. And I only wish him the best and I salute them because it's a tough job, too."

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, and Jamie Foxx is Electro. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.
