First Man only had VFX in the last third of the film. How could that beat Infinity War.

I would understand with Ready Player One, but First Man? Come on.

@L0RDbuckethead - and that’s why I hate the Oscars

@PantherKing - The odds had it at a longshot too.

Infinity War: 19/5
Ready Player One: 4/1
First Man: 9/2
Solo: 21/2
Christopher Robin: 100/1

@L0RDbuckethead - I saw it in an Oscar Prediction article under the rational that VFX is often given to what is the closest to a prestige film, not what had the best VFX, especially ones that will have no other victory that night, naming Gravity and Hugo. Maybe First Man will shock and get Best Picture, but very, very unlikely. So this is their token award to it, not what had the best VFX.

@DalekCraigWasson - It makes sense. People were upset at first that Gosling got snubbed for Best Actor and Willem Defoe got the nom instead.

I knew this film would be great from the very first trailer. Who knew that a cbm would be financially and critically successful by not only honoring the spirit of the comics but embracing the comic book aesthetic
