So the 25% was the initial offer after all, I think it’s fair. Sony was trying to play victim the whole time but the more details that emerge the dumber they seem

What a freakin mess. One report says this, another says a deal is done for Spidey in the MCU tomorrow and another says that they'll have to reboot everything again. What a joke on both Sony and Marvels part.

Liked the MCU Spiderman movies more than I liked the MCU portrayal of Spiderman.
If we can get back to the basics of what makes Spiderman special I'm down.

Watts I could give or take. He’s fine - Spidey could do better though.

Although I want it to be true I doubt they would have asked for 50 if 25 was ignored

It is in the best interest of both companies to come to an agreement. We can’t have ANOTHER live-action Spider-man reboot, especially after the last live-action Spider-man movie was critically well-received and a box office hit.

Also I feel scooping up Watts is more of a negotiation tactic than them wanting him for another projects. If you lock down the director and possibly have the actor and internet on your side that’s a lot of negotiating power although Sony could say screw it we don’t need him

People saying Into the Spider-Verse is the best Spiderman movie ever, the only thing special about it was the animation, other than that it wouldn't be able to carry Sony ;p
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 8/23/2019, 3:28 PM
I don't get the love for "Into the Spiderverse". The animation was fun but the overall plot felt so all over the place and the villains were pretty forgettable. In fact the only scene that I can vividly remember is the house fight because May swang a baseball bat at someone I forget who. It made me laugh out loud.

I know some people were going to try and defend Sony no matter what, but considering Deadline were the ones who first reported this I'm curious to know how different the past few days of discourse would be if Deadline had noted initially that Disney only wanted 25% before the last minute when it became clear Sony weren't looking to keep Spidey in the MCU

This kinda lays it bare though. Sony let Marvel have Spidey because they knew Marvel could revitalize the brand, and then once that happened they wanted to go back to keeping the MCU wallpaper without having to listen to anyone, regardless of how much smarter that "anyone" was than they were. So they talk about Venom like it's in the MCU until the last minute, and keep the writers and try and keep the director, because they know not enough people pay enough attention to this stuff for them to see any difference when Tom Holland is swinging around as Spider-Man even if there's no Marvel Studios logo at the beginning of things

The fact that they just lost the Uncharted director over the trusty "creative differences' tells you all you need to know about Sony: They are who we thought they were

@ClarkStark

25l% -> 50%

“Sounds like Sony is regretting not taking Disney’s initial 25% offer lol!”

*Sony still has Spiderman*

regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 8/23/2019, 3:49 PM
Honestly it does sound like Sony thinks they can handle Spider-Man on their own.

Who knows if they would’ve kept the initial deal moving forward ... ie you produce our Spidey movies and we’ll loan him out in X-number of crossovers.

Either way...bummer they couldn’t get on the same page. Wasn’t the biggest fan of the Spidey MCU movies. They were very entertaining and I enjoyed them more than the TASM movies. But I also think they could’ve been better. And I think most of my problems might come down to Watts being a boring director.

Sign him up if you actually want to, but don’t do it just to get back at Sony; take the high road and keep on being the bigger person in this, Marvel Studios.

But they no longer have the MCU, which they were begging for Venom and their protectors to be included in.
Kumkani

Wow it seems like Sony is starting to look dumb. Disney may have ended the whole thing but they were the selfish and greedy ones that wanted to use Feige's knowledge and services without proper compensation.
Kumkani

As I suspected the anti-Disney sentiment is gonna change and go away just like the Netflix Marvel fiasco.
