New SPIDER-MAN Animated Series Will Replace Disney XD's ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN

USA Today reveals that a new Spider-Man animated TV series is on the way which will take Peter Parker back to high school (again) to tell some fresh new stories featuring the wall-crawler. The current Disney XD series is Ultimate Spider-Man, but that will wrap up in January after four seasons with a two-part "Graduation Day" featuring the wall-crawler battling Doctor Octopus and the Superior Sinister Six.

This new take is being headed up by story editor Kevin Shinick (Robot Chicken) and supervising director Philip Pignotti (Avengers Assemble), and it will apparently focus on, "insecure yet courageous teenager Peter Parker as he learns that with great power comes great responsibility — especially when you get the strange abilities of a spider." Honestly, that doesn't sound too different to the character's current series, but chances are this one is going to ditch the goofy comedy and Family Guy style cutaways.

Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, programming and general manager for Disney XD promises, "a fresh take on a beloved classic that will engage both new and existing Spidey fans with its compelling drama, exciting action and the signature sense of comedy." No voice cast has been announced, so stay tuned for updates. Spider-Man is currently expected to start airing at some point next year.
