On Monday, a photo started circulating that showed Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield suited-up on the set of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Hours later, another found its way online - you can view it here - showing a close-up shot of the latter in his Spider-Man costume on the same scaffolding set.
Many understandably argued that it must be fake, and was likely a photo lifted from a featurette or some sort of obscure behind-the-scenes look at 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Later, Twitter sleuths would point out that the set looked suspiciously similar to one that had already been confirmed for No Way Home several months ago, but, for the most part, we still weren't buying it.
Things have now taken an unexpected turn, however.
As you can see in the Reddit post below, Sony Pictures has started hitting Twitter accounts with copyright strikes, and something tells us they wouldn't do that if this was a random fake image. We've done some digging and a number of Tweets have been hit by takedowns like this in the past 48 hours.
It's by no means a spoiler that Garfield will return as Spider-Man, but this is the closest we've come to actual confirmation. It's thought the second trailer will feature both Variant web-slingers.
