SPIDER-MAN Star Tom Holland Alludes To Sony/Disney Divorce While Presenting ONWARD At The D23 Expo SPIDER-MAN Star Tom Holland Alludes To Sony/Disney Divorce While Presenting ONWARD At The D23 Expo

Spider-Man star Tom Holland has been understandably quiet this week, but he did seemingly allude to the messy Sony/Disney divorce earlier today, at the D23 Expo, while debuting a new Onward poster.

After it was reported that Sony Pictures and Walt Disney Studios would be ending their partnership to co-produce Spider-Man films earlier this week, fans caught an inside look at the business side of the Marvel universe as both studios engaged in a war of finger-pointing, placing the blame of the deal's untimely demise on the other party.

In the midst of all of this corporate drama, current Spider-Man star Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home), who recently headlined the first Spider-Man film to top $1 billion worldwide, has been noticibly - and understandably - quiet about the whole complicated situation, wisely choosing not to comment on anything until more concrete details emerge and/or until the studios have time to possibly reengage in negotiation talks.

However, during his appearance with Chris Pratt (Avengers: Endgame) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) at the D23 Expo earlier today to promote their upcoming animated film Onward, Holland did take a moment to address the crowd - as well as the entire Marvel fanbase - and his brief comments, which echoed Robert Downey Jr.'s final lines as Iron Man, did seemingly allude to Spider-Man's imminent exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Holland said, “It’s been a crazy week, and I love you all from the bottom of my heart, and I love you 3000.

It's a massive shame that they wasted this character on pointlessly looking up to Tony Stark and the Avengers. Would have liked them to explore more of the emotional aspects of the character and the 'with great power comes great responsibilities'.

Hopefully Sony will do the character justice. I'd say they should follow up on the Spiderverse ideas they had and do a crossover film that could potentially lead into alternate versions of the varying live action Spider-man.

I haven't felt this unexcited for a Pixar movie since The Good Dinosaur or Cars 3 (I have no idea which came out first).
Cute comment from Holland, he may be Spider-Man, but he has no control over this whole mess which is sad as he is the face of a Billion dollar franchise.

While I want Onward to be good, I doubt it will be. Obviously, Tom Holland and Chris Pratt are great. It's directed by Dan Scanlon, though, and he's responsible for Monsters University. Also, every prior attempt that Pixar has made at re-skinning the regular world has not worked out. For the story, you need the magic but that doesn't mean that everything has to be mythical and fantastical. In fact, it sounds like any ol' generic kids film (I'm thinking of something like Spiderwick Chronicles). It doesn't necessitate animation and therefore is kind of against the way of Pixar. God, I've gone on a spiel. Bleh.

I'm sure it's going to work out. I mean, how can it not. It just doesn't seem realistic that it wouldn't — as in I can't picture it going any other way than Disney and Sony come to an agreement and this scare is forgotten about.

Maybe I've been lulled into a false sense of security because of the James Gunn thing working out, though.

@Nebula - it has to. It would be largely stupid of either studios to let go of something with such potential. I still think they'll work something out.

But then again, we've seen studios do much stupider things.

Poor guy. MCU Spidey is (was?) a good thing, and it might be ending, and it's 100% not on him. Must be quite frustrating. I really hope they'll work this out somehow, because I'm not sure I can go back to a solo-universe-Spidey anytime soon.

Couple months of hard work with Tom Hardy will be good for you. He’ll help you put the “Man” in Spider-Man.

It sounds like its over. Feige is saying it was great to have him there and we always knew it would end at some point.

Holland is saying it was great to do those movies, I'm still spiderman and we'll make the SOny movies even cooler.
