Holland said he is willing to play Spider-Man to the end of his days, so it wouldn't be surprising if he does return. If it is only for one movie, then let it be a live-action Spider-Verse

Apparently Sony unfollowed Tom Holland as well on social media so I don't know.

Someone just un[frick] this mess. I predict Sony may be worse off but both parties don't need this. Sony will get most of the hate and boycott and this may cost the MCU instability it does not need transitioning into this new phase.

This is just pure speculation. This exact situation would still be present had the deal between marvel and sony hadn't followed through.

Jon Watts is doing Methusaleh for Michael B. Jordan & WB next, so I always expected him to either not return or them to delay the third one till he's done. Also, the CEO of Sony Pictures Tom Rothman forced the upcoming Uncharted film to de-age Nathan Drake just so they could get Holland in that role, since he likes him that much, so they're gonna try as hard as they can to keep him locked in for at least the one more film in his contract.

Tom Holland was literally cast by Sarah Finn and the Russos. The MCU is the only playground he knows, so he can't be OK with this.

At this point I think everyone dares Sony to reboot again.

"...he appears to have unfollowed Sony on Instagram and if he's loyal to Marvel Studios, that could force Sony to reconsider their position."

Drama.

This is a shits shoe. If they don't come to a deal, EVERYBODY LOSES. Disney/Marvel really needs the Spider-Man tentpole in their MCU and Sony needs the machine of Feige's MCU to churn out more successful hits. If there's no deal then it's just both parties wanting a relatively bigger slice of a smaller pie rather than a relatively smaller slice of a much bigger pie.

If that turns out to be the case then have fun with your non-MCU non-Tom Holland third reboot of Spider-man. You’re going to need all the luck you can get.

Even on the off-chance Tom Holland does stick around, this iteration of the character is far too ingrained in the MCU for Sony to make a direct continuation without Marvel Studios involvement, so we’re either going to get a terrible sequel that doesn’t reference anything that’s happened or Peter’s been through in the last five movies, or another reboot. Either way, this franchise is totally screwed.

It's not that I don't think it's possible for Sony to make a good Spider-Man movie, it's that the percentage chance of them making a good one outside the MCU shadow only increases when they're kinda tangentially still in it

Losing Watts pretty much vacates any remaining adults in the room from Feige's team, and we aren't even having a conversation anymore if they lose Holland too

FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 8/22/2019, 4:12 AM
@UrkelBot - Even after Venom and Into the Spider-Verse, Sony still weren’t in a position where they can continue on with this iteration of the character with Marvel Studios, nor are they in a position where they can reboot the character again, so quickly, especially coming off a version character that’s been so well received and is a part of the biggest franchise in the world, so they’ve played themselves. They need Marvel, so no matter how unappealing the deal was for them, turning it down was always going to put them in a wider situation.

As for Spider-Man PS4, Sony doesn’t have those rights, so there’s really nothing stopping Disney from pulling the game from Insomniac and giving it to another developer and making it cross-platform. And with how petty Disney has been about X-Men and Fantastic Four march in the past, I wouldn’t put such antics past them.

Tom Holland would be an idiot not to play Spidey again, and everyone has to remember EVERYONE IS TO BLAME.

Disney wanted 50/50 share, and Sony said no, they would like to extend the current deal (The deal everyone was happy with) and DISNEY WALKED AWAY.

Tom Rothman and Sony are [frick]ers for not being flexible but c'mon let's be honest Disney caused this cluster[frick] just as much.

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone following this story who is happy with the idea that Sony would make their own non-MCU Spider-Man, but also wants them to keep the MCU continuity and cast?

(Maybe not the best time to ask when replying is down, but) I would have thought the entire appeal of getting Spidey away from Feige would be the prospect of a recast and reboot.
