I seriously wouldn't mind if they drop Holland's Spider-Man in another dimension by doing a lve-action Spider-Verse. To be honest, I'm more enthusiastic for Spider-Man vs Kraven, Spider-Man vs Venom, Spider-Man vs the Sinister Six or the earlier mentioned live-action Spider-Verse than any direction they're taking Spider-Man in the MCU in anyway

@MalseMarcel - In the MCU they are taking the direction of Spider-Man vs the Sinister Six and want Kraven as the villain for the next film...

Sony’s going to run the franchise back into the ground, that’s what’s next.

"Fewer Spider-Man Comics And Less Merchandise"

Yeah I highly doubt that. Spider-Man is selling really well in the comics not to mention even if they don't have the movies the brand is still strong thanks to things like Spider-Man PS4. He's still going to get just as much merch, just like he did when Sony was making TASM. The Xmen and Fantastic four are different. They aint no Spider-Man.

Business as usual. Holland still has a contract with Sony. Sony owns the plots of the last two movies. I see no reason the series wouldn't continue on as is.

what is going to happen next is that someone at Sony is gonna panic when they realize they actually don't know what the f*ck they're doing and will go back crawling to the negotiation table. I expect this to be resolved in the next weeks but we won't actually know it until a few months pass, just like with the James Gunn situation. Marvel is getting heat, Disney is getting heat, Sony is getting heat, all the parties are in losing positions, from an economic and/or PR standpoint.
so, yeah, I won't even be mad at this point. and just like with the Gunn situation ,until I see a trailer from Sony I won't believe anything anyone tells the press.

Is it a coincidence that this news dropped exactly 10 days after Spider-Man's 57th anniversary?

I’m fascinated (pending this doesn’t get resolved) is to see the majority of herds reaction if SONY should make another Best Picture Oscar winning Spider-Man film.

Will they be open minded and accept it? Or still carry their grudge for their favorite brand and unleash hell on it no matter the quality.

Dan Murrell made a great point on Fandom/Screen Junkies. He thinks its way too stupid for both sides to do this and he believes its public negotiations now. Its too creatively ruinous for both companies, according to him. Let the public outcry speak for both sides and then come back after the fallout and make a deal. A public way of both studios putting pressure on the other.

Drop in merch? Uhm, no.

One of the more prominent sections in Disneyland's upcoming Avengers-themed area is going to be a Spider-Man themed building with a ton of merch. They ain't pulling that out.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller would be a good pick to finish off what was already started with the Tom Holland Spiderman.

I'm still shocked by how many people are still putting the blame entirely on Sony. This is 100% Disney's fault. They ask for a 50/50 cut for Spider-man and all FUTURE Spider-man movies (Venom, Sinister Six, etc) while keeping 100% of the merchandise. Sony rejects that offer (as they should) and instead suggests a cut of 70/30. Disney turns down that offer and walks away. Yet somehow this is all Sony's fault?

Disney had to of known Sony was never going to take them up on such a ridiculous offer. No sane human being would.

Why the ever loving [frick] couldn't Sony just let Marvel cash in on Spider-Man while developing Miles Morales for their own purposes? Was it really so hard for them to use a character that Marvel doesn't own, a character that if correctly designed and written could have made them at least as much profit as the classic web slinger? Black Spider Man is such a golden opportunity for the Venom movies and Spiderverse series but noooo, they just couldn't let Spider-Man stay where he belongs. I understand why they didn't like the Marvel deal but this is just a waste of potential.

@DeathSeal - mirrors how I feel. This is regressive

Also realizing that my enthusiasm in comic book movies is solely due to mcu. Take mcu out if the equation and it becomes just another action movie to me

When people say that we are in a comic book movie trend, they really mean we are in a mcu trend

Less Merchandise

Nevermind Sony sold those rights back a while ago so it's not like they're going to feel the sting of going from 0% to 0%, just the fact that Spider-Man is basically the best selling multimedia cape franchise alone is reason enough to find that claim laughable.

It’s just hard to imagine how this series continues. All these important things happen we to Peter Parker but he can no longer mention Thanos or Iron Man? The Blip will just be forgotten and ignored? It just seems there is going to be a noticeable split between Far From Home and any future Spider-man movie. Like it’s not continuing the story.
