Tom Holland Says SPIDER-MAN 3 Script Is Being Figured Out As They Go

While promoting his upcoming film Cherry, Spider-Man actor Tom Holland revealed that he's had to read the script for the MCU's third Spidey film in installments as it's being written as they go.

While not terribly surprising (as Marvel has certainly done this before), Tom Holland has revealed that the third Spider-Man film in the MCU is being written as they go. Holland shared this tidbit with Collider while promoting his upcoming drama, Cherry.

"Well, unfortunately I had to read it in sections because there is an element of figuring it out as we go on this one, as there is with most of these big movies, but it is fantastic," said Holland.

He went on to add, "It’s easily the most ambitious standalone superhero film I’ve ever been a part of. It’s incredibly exciting, it’s funny, it’s emotional, it’s everything that you’d want in a superhero film. I’m loving it. I mean I’ve loved all of them, but I’ve never had as much fun as I have on this one. Being with Jacob [Batalon] and Zendaya again, being with Jon Watts again, with Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige and all those guys, it’s just like a family. We’re having a great time and we’re really, really making something very special."

With such an ambitious feature film that seems poised to blow the doors wide open on the MCU's foray into the multiverse, it's interesting that the script is so fluid. But there's a lot to parse from Holland's response. Is it just the dialogue that's being tweaked or are the script writers revising entire action and set pieces? With all the characters rumored to appear, are the writers re-working scenes based on who Marvel is adding to the film at the last minute?

Spider-Man 3 is set to hit theaters on December 17, 2021 and will feature Holland, Zendaya as MJ, Marisa Tomei as May Parker, Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange, Jamie Foxx as Electro and Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus.

It's also rumored that Elizabeth Olsen will appear as Wanda Maximoff, in addition to potential appearances from Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Willem Dafoe, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Charlie Cox, Joe Manganiello and many (MANY) more.
