Spiderman needs no introduction, whether your a comic book geek like most of this site (me included) or someone who knows very little of geek culture. So, naturally much of his rogues gallery is recognizable as well. And here I am to pick out my favorites of these baddies.

10. ALISTER SMYTHE

Blaming Spiderman for the death of his father, obscure villain and Spider-Slayer inventor Spencer Smythe, Alister upgraded his fathers work, turning himself into the Ultimate Spider-Slayer.

9. ELECTRO

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the Earth-616 incarnation. Electro is on this list because of his Ultimate (Earth-1610) counterpart. Max Dillon allowed Justin Hammer to perform illegal bioengineering, turning him into Electro. Hammer later sold Electro's services to Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin Of Crime. After Spiderman's defeat of the Kingpin, Electro became his own villain, rather than continuing to be someones goon, eventually joining the Ultimate Six.

8. THE GREEN GOBLIN

After this psychopaths murder of both 616 Gwen Stacy AND Ultimate Spiderman, I'd be as crazy as he is not to put him on this list. I am also a fan of Willem Dafoe's portrayal of the character.

7. RHINO

Do I need to explain the bada**ery of this fearsome foe?

6. SCORPION

Originally an enhanced assassin hired to take out Spiderman, Mac Gargon became a recurring villain after his failure to do so. He even got a hold of the Venom symbiote at one point.

5. MORBIUS THE LIVING VAMPIRE

A scientist looking for a cure for his condition, Michael Morbius accidentally turned himself into The Living Vampire. Morbius was originally going to be the villain in Blade II but, sadly, Sony wouldn't allow it. We did get to see him on the alternate ending for the Blade (1998) DVD, though.

4. SUPERIOR SPIDERMAN

How could I not put Superior Spiderman on this list? After years of defeat from his foe, The Amazing Spiderman, he not only killed him but stole his entire life from him.

3. KINGPIN

To be honest, I became a fan of the Kingpin from reading Daredevil and Punisher comics, but he was technically introduced in The Amazing Spiderman series.

2. CARNAGE

The spawn of Venom, Carnage isn't just a red Venom rip-off. He has abilities and such that Venom doesn't.

1.VENOM

Venom is a name of several antiheroes and super-villains that have wielded the symbiote. The first of which being Eddie Brock, the current being the Thunderbolt known as Agent Venom, AKA Flash Thompson.

10) Carnage-flat character, but still a visual badass.

9) Scorpion-can be interesting if you find the right writer.

8) Electro-is just great visually

7) Morbius-is just a badass.

6) Rhino-because he's just such a lovable guy.

5) Dr. Octopus-personally not a fan of the comic character, but Molina's portrayal on Spider-Man 2 is amazing. That alone puts him here.

4) Sandman-a good man with bad luck story is always great.

3) The Lizard-is interesting because he puts Peter between a rock and a hard place.

2) Venom-just a really great revenge themed villain, interesting to see how he becomes a sort of a hero later in life.

1) Green Goblin-IMO, the most interesting and badass of the Spidey villains. Killer of Gwen Stacy, ruiner of Spider-Man. Willem Dafoe is the best comic book movie villain ever imho.Joker fans, don't view me as an enemy, second and third are both Joker IMO)

Great article. I'm sure the Spider-man films are going to do great with adding some of those villains in the next three films. Although for me my favorite Spider-man villains would have to be.

1. Venom (Eddie Brock)
2. Green Goblin
3. Carnage
4. Morbius
5. Mysterio
6. Electro
7. Doctor Octopus
8. Hobgoblin
9. Scorpion
10. The Vulture

Mine.
1.Venom.(Eddie Brock mostly, though I think Macgargan was pretty badass too)

2.Green Goblin.(Earth 616's is cooler since he killed Gwen and looks better than that Earth 1610 Incredible Hulk rip-off. Though, that Goblin did KILL Spidey in the end so, I'll give him points for that.)

3.Doctor Octopus. (Brilliant mastermind who's not only outsmarted Spidey at times but also ended up stealing his life....LITERALLY.)

4.Carnage.(Serial Killer gets Symbiote and becomes a murdering psychopath Supervillain. Origin sounds generic, still badass and visually horrifying.)

5.Mysterio. (Master of Illusions, though he does look silly at times, all part of the magician's act I suppose.)

6.Kraven. (Badass hunter who's only true powers....are his own senses. Hell this guy just won't stay dead and is actually a man of his word.)

7.Morbius. (Scientist becomes a horrifying monster of the night and seeks to cure himself.)

8.Scorpion: (I get a kick out of his hatred for Ol' Jameson.)

9.Rhino.(Silly but just lovable ol' oaf. R.I.P Alexi.)

10.Vulture.(He's pretty sick for an old geezer.)

11.Electro.(Yeah, I get he was more of a slacker villain but he was cool, nonetheless.)

If Spider-Man is your favorite, could you please spell his name correctly once or twice?

To me, here's what makes a great villain (not talking Avengers vs. Thanos type villain but, an X-Men vs Magento, Batman vs. The Joker, etc). He's a foil for the hero, pushes the hero to his limits (physical or emotional) and is a personal villain. So, my favorite Spider-Man villain (while Venom and Goblin fit this description perfectly, especially Goblin), I would have to go with, The Lizard. By the way, I loved The Lizard in TASM but, he needed a little bit more development. Any who, The Lizard (despite his cartoony and ridiculous motives when, it's the Lizard portion of his mind in control) presents a very physical challenge for Spider-Man to over come, he pushes Spider-Man to his very limits both physically and emotionally and it's a very personal villain for Spider-Man simply because it puts him between a rock and a hard place with Spider-Man having to stop The Lizard but he has to also save his friend. He's a very interesting Spider-Man villain and since I became a fan of comicbook heroes, he's always been my favorite simply because of the situation he puts Peter in. He was the perfect villain in The Amazing Spider-Man and I'm so glad it worked out the way it did. Near perfection.
