UPDATE: Spider-Man: Brand New Day Labor Day Weekend Box Office: Another Record Looms For Tom Holland's Spidey

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's box office domination continues, and in its sixth weekend in theaters, the movie has taken one step closer to making history...again. Here's the full Labor Day Top 10.

UPDATE: For the first time since Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened worldwide on July 31, The Odyssey has emerged triumphant, taking the #1 position at the worldwide box office during its eighth weekend in theaters.

With a global total of $45.96 million, Christopher Nolan's fantasy epic managed to beat the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios co-production's still-impressive $44.1 million haul.

What made the difference? While The Odyssey—which continues to benefit from IMAX screens—has just opened in Japan, there was simply higher-than-expected interest in both North America and international territories this weekend. As a result, it's now made $1.627 billion in total.

Don't feel too sorry for the web-slinger, though, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially passed $2.4 billion worldwide.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on course to web up between $22 million and $23 million at the U.S. box office over the long Labor Day weekend, keeping it at #1 for the sixth weekend in a row.

The movie is chasing history, having recently become only the second movie ever to reach $900 million in North America. In a matter of weeks, if not days, Spidey's latest solo outing will pass Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $936.6 million record to become the highest-grossing movie of all time domestically.

The Odyssey is making its mark, too, with a $16.4 million haul over four days, taking its U.S. haul to an impressive $588.1 million. A couple of days ago, Christopher Nolan's fantasy epic reached $1 billion internationally, an incredible feat.

Another big surprise has been the horror movie, Buddy. That's had an amazing hold during its second weekend, particularly with under-25s. It exceeded expectations when it opened last week, and has now made $7.4 million over four days, taking its domestic cume to $15.98 million. You can watch our interview with director Casper Kelly below.

Back to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the blockbuster is performing better than anyone could have expected. While the mystery surrounding Sadie Sink's character certainly helped build excitement, box office numbers like these point to repeat viewings and exceedingly strong word of mouth.

Can Avengers: Doomsday possibly hope to beat the web-slinger? We'll find that out early next year.

Here's how the Top 10 looks this weekend:

1. Spider-Man: Brand New Day - 3-day $17.25 million, 4-day $22 million, Total $922 million
2. The Odyssey - 3-day $12.4 million, 4-day $16.4 million, Total $588.1 million
3. Coyote vs. Acme - 3-day $11.5 million, 4-day $14.5 million, Total $37 million
4. By Any Means - 3-day $7 million, 4-day $8.55 million
5. Insidious: Out of the Further - 3-day $6 million, 4-day $7.5 million, Total $55 million
6. Buddy - 3-day $5.9 million, 4-day $7.46 million, Total $15.98 million
7. Cars 20th Anniversary - 3-day $5.8 million, 4-day $7.2 million, Total $251.2 million
8. Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie - 3-day $3.46 million, 4-day $4.68 million, Total $49.8 million
9. Akira - 3-day $2.8 million, 4-day $3.5 million
10. The Dog Stars - 3-day $2.8 million, 4-day $3.5 million, Total $13.8 million

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control.

But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

In our review, we concluded by saying, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything fans could want. Emotional, hilarious, and heartfelt, it’s an action-packed love letter to the comics and one of Spidey’s best big-screen adventures. Spider-Man has never been more amazing."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.

@OneMoreTime - The Hulk being in this movie is one of the biggest reasons for it being successful without a doubt

@Thing94 - Yeah...OR maybe it's actually SPIDER-MAN? Banner/Hulk were in it for all of what? 12 minutes maybe?
I could see Hulk being the reason people saw "Ragnarok" he was one of the MAIN CHARACTERS in the film.
But saying that The Hulk being in this is the reason it drew such a massive audience? Became the 3rd highest grossing movie of ALL TIME? Bc of The Hulk?
Sorry old son, that ain't it.

Damn , Onslaught isn’t even in the proposed Top 10 films domestically by the end of this weekend…

Also , I had no idea they had re-released Akira yesterday too?.

Not too surprised at By Any Means being at no 4 and it seems like it may underperform , same with Coyote vs Acme unfortunately.

Anyway , BND will likely be no 1 this weekend and next too (unless Practical Magic 2 pulls an upset) until the 18th when Resident Evil comes out swinging!!.

@OneMoreTime - imagine if Tom Holland refused his normal pay, and asked for 5% of the box office. That’s a 120 million payday.

Damn , congrats to the Odyssey and well deserved too since it’s a very good movie…

I wonder if BND could get its no 1 position back tomorrow but if not I can see the struggle for that place being between both films for another week or so before RE arrives on the 18th.

@SADFFLECK - What WOULD YOU HAVE DONE THEN?
What is YOUR IDEAL
SPIDER-MAN MOVIE?
Let me guess:
Tom Hardy's Venom fighting than teaming up with ALL the other SPIDER-MEN to fight Knull?
What about THE HIGHEST GROSSING SPIDER-MAN MOVIE WAS WRONG?
But you do know, it's just your f**king OPINION right?
And that "SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY" being the THIRD HIGHEST GROSSING MOVIE OF ALL TIME is a FACT?
And YOUR opinion that for some reason The Hulk being in about 12 f**king MINUTES of a TWO AND A HALF HOUR MOVIE IS THE REASON PEOPLE FLOCKED TO IT????
I mean you have to realize how idiotic that sounds.
OR
Right F***ING NOW, give me YOUR OPINION ON WHAT HAVE MADE THE MOVIE GOOD.
Go ahead, the floor is yours. I'll wait...
