Karen Fukuhara On Her SUICIDE SQUAD Audition To Play Katana

Newcomer Karen Fukuhara describes the audition process she underwent to land the role of Katana in David Ayer's Suicide Squad. Her kendo and karate background gave her the edge during a second callback.

In a new profile from The Hollywood Reporter, UCLA grad Karen Fukuhara (24) describes the audition process she undertook to land the role of Tatsu Yamashiro aka Katana in David Ayer's Suicide Squad. Acting as the bodyguard to Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag, it will be up to the owner of the Soultaker Sword to make sure none of the members of Taskforce X stab Rick in the back. According to previous reports, her character has palpable chemistry (the negative kind) with Jai Courtney's Boomerang.  Check out what Fukuhara told THR about the audition process below.

"My manager got me the first audition, which was a little bit of sports fighting, martial arts and acting. It was taped. With the second audition, David was in the room. They were very secretive with the script so I didn’t read anything that was from the original script. I don’t know what it was from. I remember the room wasn’t very big, and they had big photo lights on either side of me. During my sword-fighting portion of the audition, I tried to calculate my arm’s length and the sword’s length so I wouldn’t hit those things. But it was cutting it really close, and when you’re in the zone, you can’t really be careful because you’re going all out. I hit one of the lights, and I remember hearing the casting director and David gasp. But I just kept going with it, and I think that’s what David liked, that I didn’t stop in the middle."

We're only 8 days from early, Thursday night preview screenings on August 4th.  The review embargo lifts on August 02 so we'll have our first reports on what Ayer delivered just two days before the opening credits roll.  Some conspiracy theorist are taking that as a bad sign.  What do you think?  Sound off in the comment section below.

U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
