There was a lot to love about Suicide Squad (including a killer soundtrack), but the movie was a mess, and that was particularly noticeable during the first twenty minutes or so. Characters received multiple introductions, flashy graphics plastered the screen, and it all just ended up feeling jumbled.
Much of that was likely down to reshoots ordered by Warner Bros. to lighten the movie's tone, and it was revealed back in 2016 that they enlisted a trailer editing team to try and jazz things up a little.
Now, though, Suicide Squad director David Ayer has taken to Twitter to reveal that in "my cut" of the movie, the plan was for it to open with a lengthy introduction for the June Moon/Enchantress character. Seeing as she was the lead villain, that makes sense, but Rick Flag's love interest ended up fading into the background, especially as she was joined by a colourful, CGI co-baddie.
Ever since it was revealed that Zack Snyder's Justice League is going to be released, the #ReleaseTheAyerCut campaign has picked up steam in a big way. Chances are Ayer's movie would only need to be re-edited (with some added deleted scenes) for us to see his Suicide Squad, but whether that's something Warner Bros. would realistically consider is impossible to say right now.
