THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Already Knows What The Movie's Rating Will Be THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Already Knows What The Movie's Rating Will Be

During a recent Q&A with fans on social media, The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has revealed that he already knows what his reboot's rating will end up being! Find out more details after the jump...

2016's Suicide Squad could have easily boasted an R-Rating with a few tweaks here and there, but Warner Bros. ultimately released the DC Comics adaptation as a PG-13 blockbuster. That obviously paid off in terms of box office takings, and with Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey bombing (even after Joker made over $1 billion), who knows what the plan is with The Suicide Squad.

Well, James Gunn does as the filmmaker has revealed during a Q&A with fans on social media that the reboot/sequel's rating has already been decided on.

The writer and director won't reveal what it is, of course, but it's certainly left fans with plenty to discuss. On the one hand, Warner Bros. is no doubt keen on releasing a Guardians of the Galaxy-style, family friendly hit which appeals to the masses, but giving Gunn some freedom to play with an R-Rating would be no bad thing (just imagine how many ways Task Force X's members could die).

As of right now, there's no word on whether The Suicide Squad will be hit by any sort of COVID-19 related delays, but Gunn has previously indicated that he's continuing to work on the film from home.

Had no idea SS was pg-13. That rating is such a loop-hole . Think TSS will be pg-13 ....purely coz BoP and Shazam didnt make an awful lot of cash.

@emeraldtaurus - TSS will prob be pg-13. BOP flopped by trying too hard to be Deadpool & r-rated. Watching BOP on VOD, you can tell it was supposed to be pg-13. Besides a lil foul language and cgi blood splats, it was obviously shot to be pg-13.

But if TSS fails WB will prob end that shitty david ayer universe. I rather they just give Todd Phillips all the money he needs to launch the black label. Imagine Red Son Superman coming out and forcing Cavill to quit like Leto. It would be amazing!

@mastakilla39 - Every interview Cavill does, he comes across as a real life Superman. He could totally continue on as Supes.

@emeraldtaurus - Hey Hancock was PG-13 and I still don’t understand how that original version slipped through with that rating I’m convinced the MPAA didn’t even watch it and just gave it that rating bc it was a superhero movie

The Suicide Squad could be R...but it doesn't have to be.

If The Batman is R...that would honestly be a waste.

@DannRamm113 - I'm almost 100% this Suicide Squad was supposed to be rated R from the jump. Like it's not a secret.

Batman on the other hand, yeah no, it better not be rated R. You can make a dark, mature Batman film that doesn't need an F-Bomb every other sentence.

There are more words in the headline than those in the tweet this is based upon

If it's entertaining, kids will see it. If it's not, it makes for a good scapegoat.

The Suicide Squad be like: "And I would've been rated R too, if it hadn't been for you meddling Birds of Prey."

The fact that he's being g so cheeky about it pretty much confirms pg 13 I hope BOP haters are happy

I'm completely against shock value over servicing the narrative, but intellectual properties like Suicide Squad and John Constantine shouldn't be restrained by a PG-13 classification. They tried to sell the first Suicide Squad film to a "pubescent "Hotpoint crowd", and the result was atrocious.
