The Suicide Squad is one of 2021's most highly anticipated movies, and writer and director James Gunn has now confirmed that work on the sequel/reboot is complete. While that was always the plan, the filmmaker reveals that "What's more unusual is that we didn't do a single shot of pickups or any post-production shooting."
In other words, no reshoots!
That's rare for a big budget blockbuster these days, and even rarer for one of Warner Bros.' DC Comics movies (huge chunks of 2016's Suicide Squad were reshot at the studio's behest).
For those of you hoping that this might lead to The Suicide Squad arriving in theaters and on HBO Max a little sooner than planned, Gunn would go on to make it clear that's not going to happen.
"[We're] waiting for the world to heal just a little more so a larger number of people can see it safely in theaters, where it is intended to be seen," he started, adding: "I want as many people to be able to see it in theaters as possible."
That's understandable, as a lot more theaters will have reopened by August. It's previously been reported that Gunn isn't 100% happy with the movie's streaming release, and after the success of Godzilla vs. Kong, Warner Bros. is likely banking on The Suicide Squad making a similarly impressive impact at the global box office.
