King Shark is a shark!

KS has taken the form of at least two different species of the oceanic apex predator in the comics. In recent years, the ferocious DC villain has been depicted as a hammerhead, so why did James Gunn decided on a great white for his take on the character in The Suicide Squad?

Responding to a fan's query over Twitter, the filmmaker revealed that he was originally planning to go with the hammerhead design, but ultimately decided it was more practical to use the great white version.

As many correctly guessed, King Shark will indeed be voiced by '80s action movie legend Sylvester Stallone. The GOTG Vol. 2 actor's take on the villain proved to be a major highlight of the trailer, impressing fans with his ability to be strangely endearing while devouring people alive and ripping them in two.

Gunn is not here for any of your squees, however.

"Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Bell Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out — even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today's do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone's favorite pyscho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese."
"Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and- destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave...and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them."

The Suicide Squad is set to premiere on HBO Max and in theaters on August 6.

It makes the most sense as the only other King of the Ocean would have been a Megalodon. When you say King Shark everyone thinks great white.

King Shark looks like a lot of fun but the “haaaaand” joke was a pretty “I can hear crickets” moment for me.

How tf did the CW make him look better? Not saying he looks bad in this Suicide Squad but it's no contest.

@KWilly - If we're talking about overall design, that's a matter of personal taste. As for lighting, texturing and animation, to me they're not really that far from each other, which shouldn't be the case since this is a big movie. I just hope they have some time to improve it.

@KWilly - Different approaches. I disagree that it looks better.

@KWilly - Ya, no.

That doesn’t look better. It looks different and menacing but also CWish.

@KWilly - Think different artist on a different comic book.
It's like comparing Gary Frank with Skottie Young.
